    Organizational Commitment: A Proposal for a Wider Ethical Conceptualization of ÔÇÿNormative CommitmentÔÇÖ.M. Guill├® N. - 2008 - Journal of Business Ethics 78 (3):401.
Conceptualization and measurement of organizational commitment involve different dimensions that include economic, affective, as well as moral aspects labelled in the literature as: 'continuance', 'affective' and 'normative' commitment. This multidimensional framework emerges from the convergence of different research lines. Using Aristotle's philosophical framework, that explicitly considers the role of the will in human commitment, it is proposed a rational explanation of the existence of mentioned dimensions in organizational commitment. Such a theoretical proposal may offer a more accurate definition of 'affective (...)

The Deduction Rule and Linear and Near-Linear Proof Simulations.Maria Luisa Bonet & Samuel R. Buss - 1993 - Journal of Symbolic Logic 58 (2):688-709.
We introduce new proof systems for propositional logic, simple deduction Frege systems, general deduction Frege systems, and nested deduction Frege systems, which augment Frege systems with variants of the deduction rule. We give upper bounds on the lengths of proofs in Frege proof systems compared to lengths in these new systems. As applications we give near-linear simulations of the propositional Gentzen sequent calculus and the natural deduction calculus by Frege proofs. The length of a proof is the number of lines (...)

A Practice-Inspired Mindset for Researching the Psychophysiological and Medical Health Effects of Recreational Dance.Julia F. Christensen, Meghedi Vartanian, Luisa Sancho-Escanero, Shahrzad Khorsandi, S. H. N. Yazdi, Fahimeh Farahi, Khatereh Borhani & Antoni Gomila - 2021 - Frontiers in Psychology 11.
“Dance” has been associated with many psychophysiological and medical health effects. However, varying definitions of what constitute “dance” have led to a rather heterogenous body of evidence about such potential effects, leaving the picture piecemeal at best. It remains unclear what exact parameters may be driving positive effects. We believe that this heterogeneity of evidence is partly due to a lack of a clear definition of dance for such empirical purposes. A differentiation is needed between the effects on the individual (...)

Supermultiplicity and the Relativistic Coulomb Problem with Arbitrary Spin.M. Moshinsky, A. Del Sol Mesa & V. Riquer - 1997 - Foundations of Physics 27 (8):1139-1157.
The Hamiltonian for n relativistic electrons without interaction but in a Coulomb potential is well known. If in this Hamiltonian we take r ′ u =r′, P ′ u =P′ with u=1,2,..., n, we obtain a one-body problem in a Coulomb field, but the appearance of n of the α u , u=1,..., n, each of which corresponds to spin $\tfrac{1}{2}$ , indicates that we may have spins up to (n/2). We analyze this last problem first by denoting the 4×4 (...)

Degree Complexity for a Modified Pigeonhole Principle.Maria Luisa Bonet & Nicola Galesi - 2003 - Archive for Mathematical Logic 42 (5):403-414.
. We consider a modification of the pigeonhole principle, M P H P, introduced by Goerdt in [7]. M P H P is defined over n pigeons and log n holes, and more than one pigeon can go into a hole. Using a technique of Razborov [9] and simplified by Impagliazzo, Pudlák and Sgall [8], we prove that any Polynomial Calculus refutation of a set of polynomials encoding the M P H P, requires degree Ω. We also prove a simple (...)

    Logic, Models, and Paradoxical Inferences.Isabel Orenes & P. N. Johnson-Laird - 2012 - Mind and Language 27 (4):357-377.
People reject ‘paradoxical’ inferences, such as: Luisa didn't play music; therefore, if Luisa played soccer, then she didn't play music. For some theorists, they are invalid for everyday conditionals, but valid in logic. The theory of mental models implies that they are valid, but unacceptable because the conclusion refers to a possibility inconsistent with the premise. Hence, individuals should accept them if the conclusions refer only to possibilities consistent with the premises: Luisa didn't play soccer; therefore, if (...)

Democracia, identidad y ciudadanía: las figuras de los márgenes.María Luisa Femenías - 2011 - Anales de la Cátedra Francisco Suárez 45:89 - 107.
Does identity matter to democracy? This is the question that serves as the maintheme of this work in which the author discusses the idea of identity and the dialectic between equality and difference, individual rights and collective rights within the framework of the theory of democracy and contemporary citizenship. Takings contributions in this area from the work of N. Fraser, A. Gutmann, but I. M. Young and S. Benhabib, the author defends transnational public policies that guide critical dialogue, tending to (...)

  27. Portioning-Out and Individuation in Mandarin Non-Interrogative Wh-Pronominal Phrases: Experimental Evidence From Child Mandarin.Aijun Huang, Francesco-Alessio Ursini & Luisa Meroni - 2021 - Frontiers in Psychology 11.
Portioning-out and individuation are two important semantic properties for the characterization of countability. In Mandarin, nouns are not marked with count-mass syntax, and it is controversial whether individuation is encoded in classifiers or in nouns. In the present study, we investigates the interpretation of a minimal pair of non-interrogative wh-pronominal phrases, including duo-shao-N and duo-shao-ge-N. Due to the presence/absence of the individual classifier ge, these two wh-pronominal phrases differ in how they encode portioning-out and individuation. In two experiments, we used (...)

An important debate in the current literature is whether “all truth-conditional effects of extra-linguistic context can be traced to [a variable at; LM] logical form” (Stanley, ‘Context and Logical Form’, Linguistics and Philosophy, 23 (2000) 391). That is, according to Stanley, the only truth-conditional effects that extra-linguistic context has are localizable in (potentially silent) variable-denoting pronouns or pronoun-like items, which are represented in the syntax/at logical form (pure indexicals like I or today are put aside in this discussion). According to (...)

As we move around in our environment, and interact with it, many of the most important problems we face involve the processing of spatial information. We have to be able to navigate by perceiving and remembering the locations and orientations of the objects around us relative to ourself; we have to sense and act upon these objects; and we need to move through space to position ourselves in favourable locations or to avoid dangerous ones. While this appears so simple that (...)

Social robotics entertains a particular relationship with anthropomorphism, which it neither sees as a cognitive error, nor as a sign of immaturity. Rather it considers that this common human tendency, which is hypothesized to have evolved because it favored cooperation among early humans, can be used today to facilitate social interactions between humans and a new type of cooperative and interactive agents - social robots. This approach leads social robotics to focus research on the engineering of robots that activate anthropomorphic (...)

This article addresses the problem of emergence through a distinction, often neglected in the literature, between two different aspects of this issue: (1) the theoretical problem of providing modelizations able to explain the expression of emergent properties; (2) the epistemological problem of warranting the scientific value of the emergentist descriptions of nature. This paper considers this double issue with regard to the biological domain, and proposes a double solution (theoretical and epistemological) originally developed in early studies on self-organization. The underlying (...)

In Experiment 1 participants were requested to reach towards an object, grasp it, and either simply lift it or lift it with the intent to communicate a meaning to a partner . Movement kinematics were recorded using a three-dimensional motion analysis system. The results indicate that kinematics was sensitive to communicative intention. Although the to-be-grasped object remained the same, movements performed for the ‘communicative’ condition (...)

  46. Rousseau on Amour-Propre: N.J.H. Dent.N. J. H. Dent - 1998 - Aristotelian Society Supplementary Volume 72 (1):57–74.
According to familiar accounts, Rousseau held that humans are actuated by two distinct kinds of self love: amour de soi, a benign concern for one's self-preservation and well-being; and amour-propre, a malign concern to stand above other people, delighting in their despite. I argue that although amour-propre can (and often does) assume this malign form, this is not intrinsic to its character. The first and best rank among men that amour-propre directs us to claim for ourselves is that of occupying (...)

Dispositional Mindfulness and Subjective Time in Healthy Individuals.Luisa Weiner, Marc Wittmann, Gilles Bertschy & Anne Giersch - 2016 - Frontiers in Psychology 7.
How a human observer perceives duration depends on the amount of events taking place during the timed interval, but also on psychological dimensions, such as emotional-wellbeing, mindfulness, impulsivity, and rumination. Here we aimed at exploring these influences on duration estimation and passage of time judgments. One hundred and seventeen healthy individuals filled out mindfulness (FFMQ), impulsivity (BIS-11), rumination (RRS), and depression (BDI-sf) questionnaires. Participants also conducted verbal estimation and production tasks in the multiple seconds range. During these timing tasks, subjects (...)

Emotions in Relation. Epistemological and Ethical Scaffolding for Mixed Human-Robot Social Ecologies.Luisa Damiano & Paul Gerard Dumouchel - 2020 - Humana Mente 13 (37).
In this article we tackle the core question of machine emotion research – “Can machines have emotions?” – in the context of “social robots”, a new class of machines designed to function as “social partners” for humans. Our aim, however, is not to provide an answer to the question “Can robots have emotions?” Rather we argue that the “robotics of emotion” moves us to reformulate it into a different one – “Can robots affectively coordinate with humans?” Developing a series of (...)
