  1. Potential Benefits of Canine Companionship for Military Veterans with Posttraumatic Stress Disorder.Allegro L. Johnson, Denise Pride, D. Allen Donahue, Stephen L. Stern, John P. Hatch, Sybil Allison, Alan L. Peterson, Trisha A. Benson, Carlos Moreno, Matthew D. Jeffreys & Cynthia L. Lancaster - 2013 - Society and Animals 21 (6):568-581.
Investigators surveyed 30 U.S. military veterans with PTSD who reported having benefited from living with a dog. The subject population included men and women aged 34 to 67, with a mean of 56.9 years, who were being treated at two Department of Veterans Affairs outpatient clinics. Participants received a questionnaire packet designed to assess aspects of their mental and physical health and relationship with a canine companion, which they completed at home and returned either in person or by mail. The (...)

Dr. Daedalus and His Minotaur: Mythic Warnings About Genetic Engineering From J.B.S. Haldane, François Jacob, and Andrew Niccol's Gattaca.Mark Jeffreys - 2001 - Journal of Medical Humanities 22 (2):137-152.
We are entering an era in which “cultural construction of the body” refers to a literal technological enterprise. This era was anticipated in the 1920s by geneticist J. B. S. Haldane in a lecture which inspired Aldous Huxley's Brave New World. In that lecture, Haldane reinterpreted the Greek myth of Daedalus and the Minotaur as heroic fable. Seventy years later another geneticist, François Jacob, used the same myth as cautionary tale. Here I explain the Minotaur's “genetic” monstrosity in terms of (...)

How Can “Cheap Talk” Yield Coordination, Given a Conflict?Mark Jeffreys - 2008 - Mind and Society 7 (1):95-108.
ChickenHawk is a social-dilemma game that distinguishes uncoordinated from coordinated cooperation. In tests with players belonging to a culturally homogeneous population, natural-language “cheap talk” led to efficient coordination, while nonlinguistic signaling yielded uncoordinated altruism. In a subsequent test with players from a moderately more heterogeneous population nearby, the “cheap talk” condition still produced better coordination than other signaling conditions, but at a lower level and with fewer acts of altruism overall. Implications are: (1) without language, even willing cooperators coordinate poorly; (...)

  15. The Decoration of the Sevastokratorissa's Tent.Jeffrey C. Anderson & M. J. Jeffreys - 1994 - Byzantion 64 (1):8-18.

  20. Who Was Eirene the Sevastokratorissa?M. Jeffreys & E. Jeffreys - 1994 - Byzantion 64 (1):40-68.
