Flow and Structure of Time Experience – Concept, Empirical Validation and Implications for Psychopathology.David H. V. Vogel, Christine M. Falter-Wagner, Theresa Schoofs, Katharina Krämer, Christian Kupke & Kai Vogeley - 2020 - Phenomenology and the Cognitive Sciences 19 (2):235-258.
We present a conceptual framework on the experience of time and provide a coherent basis on which to base further inquiries into qualitative approaches concerning time experience. We propose two Time-Layers and two Time-Formats forming four Time-Domains. Micro-Flow and Micro-Structure represent the implicit phenomenal basis, from which the explicit experiences of Macro-Flow and Macro-Structure emerge. Complementary to this theoretical proposal, we present empirical results from qualitative content analysis obtained from 25 healthy participants. The data essentially corroborate the theoretical proposal. With (...)

The high prevalence of cardiovascular diseases demands a reliable and sensitive risk assessment technique. In order to develop a fast and label-free immunosensor for C-reactive protein, a risk factor for this condition, anti-CRP antibodies were physically adsorbed to the hydrogen -terminated surface of nanocrystalline diamond. An Enzyme-Linked ImmunoSorbent Assay reference technique showed that this was a suitable substrate for antibody-antigen recognition reactions. Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy was used to electronically detect CRP recognition. The specificity of the immunosensor was demonstrated by incubation (...)

    Aristotle on Political Reasoning: A Commentary on the "Rhetoric.".John V. Wagner - 1985 - Review of Metaphysics 38 (3):617-618.
Aristotle's Rhetoric presents a number of problems for interpreters. It contains criticisms of sophists, yet seems to teach sophistical techniques of persuasion. It is unclear to some readers whether the book is an elaboration of a rational discourse or not. And its diversity of material has led some to view it as a collection of texts rather than as a unified book. In his commentary Arnhart argues that Aristotle's Rhetoric is a coherent account of public speech as a kind of (...)

  22. Asian Peace Psychology: A Special Issue of Peace and Conflict.Richard V. Wagner (ed.) - 2003 - Psychology Press.
These six articles place conflicts in Asia within the context of peace psychology, catalogues the diversity of conflicts in Asia, describes the inspiring success Philippine citizens have had in effecting drastic change in political leadership through nonviolent protest, and examines stereotypes in Sino-Japanese relations. Research on two extremist groups in Pakistan-one endorsing and one not endorsing violent confrontation is then examined. The concluding article contributes to the argument that Asia can provide novel examples of conflict that broaden our perspective.

    De Numeris Datis: A Critical Edition and Translation.John V. Wagner - 1985 - Review of Metaphysics 38 (3):641-642.
If one wishes to understand medieval philosophical descriptions of the nature of the various sciences, a familiarity with the scientific knowledge possessed at that time is necessary. An excellent example of the basic characteristics of medieval mathematics can be found in this critical edition of De numeris datis. The work itself is the first advanced algebra text produced in Western Europe. It is a study of the general methods of solving problems for unknown numbers if one knows, is given, other (...)

Out of Order: Affirmative Action and the Crisis of Doctrinaire Liberalism. [REVIEW]John V. Wagner - 1985 - Review of Metaphysics 39 (2):347-348.
Debates over affirmative action are often frustratingly uninformative and inconclusive. In this work Capaldi goes beyond criticizing that policy to clarify why the debaters miss each other's points. He begins by attacking affirmative action and establishes the need to explore the theory supporting it. Following this exploration he concludes that this policy involves dangerous fundamental changes in the structure of society and outlines a response. The timing of the publication of the book was such that it was unable to take (...)

This inaugural issue presents not only portions of the interview with Schwebel, but a brief resumé and representative publications for each decade, 1940-2000. American Sociology, Realism, Structure and Truth: An Interview with Douglas V. Porpora.Douglas V. Porpora & Jamie Morgan - 2020 - Journal of Critical Realism 19 (5):522-544.
ABSTRACT In this wide-ranging interview Professor Douglas V. Porpora discusses a number of issues. First, how he became a Critical Realist through his early work on the concept of structure. Second, drawing on his Reconstructing Sociology, his take on the current state of American sociology. This leads to discussion of the broader range of his work as part of Margaret Archer’s various Centre for Social Ontology projects, and on moral-macro reasoning and the concept of truth in political discourse.

  40. Margaret Cavendish on Gender, Nature, and Freedom.Deborah Boyle - 2013 - Hypatia 28 (3):516-532.
Some scholars have argued that Margaret Cavendish was ambivalent about women's roles and capabilities, for she seems sometimes to hold that women are naturally inferior to men, but sometimes that this inferiority is due to inferior education. I argue that attention to Cavendish's natural philosophy can illuminate her views on gender. In section II I consider the implications of Cavendish's natural philosophy for her views on male and female nature, arguing that Cavendish thought that such natures were not fixed. (...)

Appropriate for general readers and Gandhi specialists, this volume will be of interest for those in philosophy, religion, political science, history, cultural studies, peace studies, and many other fields.

One of the three volumes dedicated to Professor H. Wagner on the occasion of his sixtieth birthday. The first is Lehrstücke der praktischen Philosophie und der Ästhetik. As the title indicates, this publication concentrates on ethics, legal philosophy and aesthetics. It approaches these disciplines from a Kantian perspective. The second volume dedicated to Wagner is the fourth number of the 1978 publication of the journal: Archiv für Geschichte der Philosophie. This volume quite appropriately contains historical studies related to (...)
