    Field Theory onR×S 3 Topology: Lagrangian Formulation. [REVIEW]M. Carmeli & A. Malka - 1990 - Foundations of Physics 20 (1):71-110.
A brief description of the ordinary field theory, from the variational and Noether's theorem point of view, is outlined. A discussion is then given of the field equations of Klein-Gordon, Schrödinger, Dirac, Weyl, and Maxwell in their ordinary form on the Minkowskian space-time manifold as well as on the topological space-time manifold R × S3 as they were formulated by Carmeli and Malin, including the latter's most general solutions. We then formulate the general variational principle in the R × (...)

How Leadership Characteristics Affect Organizational Decline and Downsizing.Abraham Carmeli & Zachary Sheaffer - 2009 - Journal of Business Ethics 86 (3):363-378.
While studies have investigated the moral issue associated with downsizing, little research attention has been directed to leaders’ behaviors that result in organizational decline and eventually lead them to make a downsizing decision. This study tests a sequence-based model to assess (1) the impact of leaders’ risk-aversion and self-centeredness on organizational decline and downsizing and (2) the impact of organizational and industry decline on organizational downsizing. We address a gap in the decline literature that has only implicitly alluded to leadership (...)

Constructing Extremal Compatible Quantum Observables by Means of Two Mutually Unbiased Bases.Claudio Carmeli, Gianni Cassinelli & Alessandro Toigo - 2019 - Foundations of Physics 49 (6):532-548.
We describe a particular class of pairs of quantum observables which are extremal in the convex set of all pairs of compatible quantum observables. The pairs in this class are constructed as uniformly noisy versions of two mutually unbiased bases with possibly different noise intensities affecting each basis. We show that not all pairs of MUB can be used in this construction, and we provide a criterion for determining those MUB that actually do yield extremal compatible observables. We apply our (...)

    Cosmological Special Relativity.M. Carmeli - 1996 - Foundations of Physics 26 (3):413-416.
Recently we presented a new special relativity theory for cosmology in which it was assumed that gravitation can be neglected and thus the bubble constant can be taken as a constant. The theory was presented in a six-dimensional hvperspace. three for the ordinary space and three for the velocities. In this paper we reduce our hyperspace to four dimensions by assuming that the three-dimensional space expands only radially, thus one is left with the three dimensions of ordinary space and one (...)

Noise–Disturbance Relation and the Galois Connection of Quantum Measurements.Claudio Carmeli, Teiko Heinosaari, Takayuki Miyadera & Alessandro Toigo - 2019 - Foundations of Physics 49 (6):492-505.
The relation between noise and disturbance is investigated within the general framework of Galois connections. Within this framework, we introduce the notion of leak of information, mathematically defined as one of the two closure maps arising from the observable-channel compatibility relation. We provide a physical interpretation for it, and we give a comparison with the analogous closure maps associated with joint measurability and simulability for quantum observables.

  9. Cosmological Relativity: A Special Relativity for Cosmology. [REVIEW]M. Carmeli - 1995 - Foundations of Physics 25 (7):1029-1040.
Under the assumption that Hubble's constant H0 is constant in cosmic time, there is an analogy between the equation of propagation of light and that of expansion of the universe. Using this analogy, and assuming that the laws of physics are the same at all cosmic times, a new special relativity, a cosmological relativity, is developed. As a result, a transformation is obtained that relates physical quantities at different cosmic times. In a one-dimensional motion, the new transformation is given by (...)

  11. The Einstein-Rosen Gravitational Waves and Cosmology.M. Carmeli & Ch Charach - 1984 - Foundations of Physics 14 (10):963-986.
This paper reviews recent applications of the Einstein- Rosen type space-times to some problems of modern cosmology. An extensive overview of inhomogeneous universes filled with gravitational waves, classical fields, and relativistic fluids is given. The dynamics of primordial inhomogeneities, such as gravitational and matter waves and shocks, their interactions, and the global evolution of the models considered, is presented in detail.

In this paper we review some properties of fuzzy observables, mainly as realized by commutative positive operator valued measures. In this context we discuss two representation theorems for commutative positive operator valued measures in terms of projection valued measures and describe, in some detail, the general notion of fuzzification. We also make some related observations on joint measurements.

The age of maturity of children to consent for medical research is under debate, as different authorities regard the capacity of young teenagers as either satisfactory or not to grant consent without parental participation in the process. The present paper contrasts the generally accepted guideline for ethics in paediatric research in Canada with what the same children are allowed and expected to be able to do as babysitters. This comparison reveals deep incongruences in the way the maturity of the same (...)

    Field Theory onR× S 3 Topology. I: The Klein-Gordon and Schrödinger Equations. [REVIEW]M. Carmeli - 1985 - Foundations of Physics 15 (2):175-184.
A Klein-Gordon-type equation onR×S 3 topology is derived, and its nonrelativistic Schrödinger equation is given. The equation is obtained with a Laplacian defined onS 3 topology instead of the ordinary Laplacian. A discussion of the solutions and the physical interpretation of the equation are subsequently given, and the most general solution to the equation is presented.

A Dirac-type equation on R×S 3 topology is derived. It is a generalization of the previously obtained Klein-Gordon-type, Schrödinger-type, and Weyl-type equations, and reduces to the latter in the appropriate limit. The (discrete) energy spectrum is found and the corresponding complete set of solutions is given as expansions in terms of the matrix elements of the irreducible representations of the group SU 2 . Finally, the properties of the solutions are discussed.

    Field Theory onR×S 3 Topology. VI: Gravitation. [REVIEW]M. Carmeli & S. Malin - 1987 - Foundations of Physics 17 (4):407-417.
We extend to curved space-time the field theory on R×S3 topology in which field equations were obtained for scalar particles, spin one-half particles, the electromagnetic field of magnetic moments, an SU2 gauge theory, and a Schrödinger-type equation, as compared to ordinary field equations that are formulated on a Minkowskian metric. The theory obtained is an angular-momentum representation of gravitation. Gravitational field equations are presented and compared to the Einstein field equations, and the mathematical and physical similarity and differences between them (...)

The Dynamics of Rapidly Rotating Bodies.M. Carmeli - 1985 - Foundations of Physics 15 (8):889-904.
The dynamics of rapidly rotating bodies is formulated in a rotationally invariant form in all frames rotating with constant angular velocities relative to each other. This includes the energy, angular momentum, rotational frequency, and moment of inertia. The transformation between these quantities, when expressed in different frames, is then given explicitly and expressed in terms of both the angular momentum and the rotational frequency variables. Comparison with the approximate formula for the Routhian is made, and some consequences of physical interest (...)

    R×S 3 Special Theory of Relativity.M. Carmeli - 1985 - Foundations of Physics 15 (12):1263-1273.
A theory of relativity, along with its appropriate group of Lorentz-type transformations, is presented. The theory is developed on a metric withR×S 3 topology as compared to ordinary relativity defined on the familiar Minkowskian metric. The proposed theory is neither the ordinary special theory of relativity (since it deals with noninertial coordinate systems) nor the general theory of relativity (since it is not a dynamical theory of gravitation). The theory predicts, among other things, that finite-mass particles in nature have maximum (...)

The Night in Which All Dinosaurs Wear Nightcaps: A Supplement to Zizek's Critique of Meillassoux.Josef Moshe - 2013 - International Journal of Žižek Studies 7 (3).
This essay develops Slavoj Žižek’s critique of Quentin Meillassoux’s speculative materialism. The first part consists of a discussion of Meillassoux’s ‘principle of factiality’ (which states that only contingency is necessary) and Ray Brassier’s problematization of this principle’s self-referentiality. The second part takes up Žižek’s critique of Meillassoux, which solves the problem of self-reference by dialecticizing the principle of factiality, ending up with the thesis of the contingency of necessity. The third part is an elaboration of Žižek’s critique in which the (...)

    Field Theory onR×S 3 Topology. IV: Electrodynamics of Magnetic Moments. [REVIEW]M. Carmeli & S. Malin - 1986 - Foundations of Physics 16 (8):791-806.
The equations of electrodynamics for the interactions between magnetic moments are written on R×S3 topology rather than on Minkowskian space-time manifold of ordinary Maxwell's equations. The new field equations are an extension of the previously obtained Klein-Gordon-type, Schrödinger-type, Weyl-type, and Dirac-type equations. The concept of the magnetic moment in our case takes over that of the charge in ordinary electrodynamics as the fundamental entity. The new equations have R×S3 invariance as compared to the Lorentz invariance of Maxwell's equations. The solutions (...)

This book gives a comprehensive overview of central themes of finite model theory – expressive power, descriptive complexity, and zero-one laws – together with selected applications relating to database theory and artificial intelligence, especially constraint databases and constraint satisfaction problems. The final chapter provides a concise modern introduction to modal logic, emphasizing the continuity in spirit and technique with finite model theory. This underlying spirit involves the use of various fragments of and hierarchies within first-order, second-order, fixed-point, and infinitary logics (...)

This text deals with Moshe Idel’s perspective on the connections between Maimonide’s philosophy and Abulafia’s esoteric thought. Idel analyses their thinking under the aspect of their appearance, inter-relation, and inner dynamics. Idel’s analysis reveals that Maimonide’s attempt to issue an esoteric book, one that would give back to Judaism a lost esoteric science, gave a particular impulse to the development of Jewish mysticism, and especially to the ecstatic Kabbalah. Maimonide attempted to transform philosophy into a mystic instrument of understanding (...)
