This chapter introduces the biography of Martin Heidegger and assesses his particular thoughts on musical philosophy. Heidegger was born in Messkirch on September 26, 1889. His collected works have been appearing with the publisher Klostermann, in Frankfurt, since 1975. Heidegger addressed the link between Dasein and being in a manner that is highly revealing precisely as it applies to the artwork essay, and to music in particular. He drew a strict line of demarcation between the astonishment and the admiration for (...) any kind of achievement. For him, the irreducibility of the arts did not mean that they were of equal rank. The reason Heidegger adduces for giving an exceptional place to lyric poetry is his view of the right concept of language. In light of the paucity of explicit textual references, the musicological reception of Heidegger was extremely modest. (shrink)

This volume contains the proceedings of a conference in Meran in October 2015 on intercultural aesthetics with the addition of some external contributions. Two general papers on the topic concerned (Ram Adhar Mall, Giusi Strumiello) are followed by contributions on music (H.-C. Günther on Mahler and on Busoni, Yoon Young Serena Kim on Yun Isang), Indian and Chinese art (Ram Adhar Mall, Harro von Senger, Gabriele Kiesewetter), urban planning (Thilo Hilpert) and film (Udo Steinbach). The contributions on art and urban (...) planning are amply illustrated. The appendix contains colour reproductions of an exhibition of watercolours by the Chinese artist Hong Yi with an introduction to the artist's work and detailed explanations of the painting by Gabriele Kiesewetter. Günthers Untersuchungen zu Hegels Kritik der »formalen« Logik und ihrer metaphysischen Voraussetzungen demonstrieren die Begrenzung der klassischen, zweiwertigen Logik auf das Thema »Objektivität« (»Sein des Seienden«). Zum Verständnis des zweiten logischen Fundamentalthemas »Subjektivität und Reflexion« in der Philosophie des Deutschen Idealismus ist eine grundsätzliche Erweiterung der Konzeption der Logik unumgänglich. In ausführlicher systematischer Analyse der Reflexionstheorie Hegels arbeiten die »Grundzüge einer neuen Theorie des Denkens« den für den Aufbau einer transklassischen Logik grundlegenden Begriff der »logischen Thematik« heraus.
