mCSEM Data Interpretation for Hydrocarbon Exploration: A Fast Interpretation Workflow for Drilling Decision.Marco Polo P. Buonora, Jorlivan L. Correa, Luciano S. Martins, Paulo T. L. Menezes, Emanuel J. C. Pinho, Joao L. Silva Crepaldi, Mirela P. P. Ribas, Sergio M. Ferreira & Rafael C. Freitas - 2014 - Interpretation: SEG 2 (3):SH1-SH11.
In a hydrocarbon exploration workflow, marine controlled-source electromagnetic data are usually acquired after seismic interpretation for prospect identification and close-to-the-drilling decision making. Therefore, the mCSEM interpreter must provide quick answers to the asset teams in a way that the EM interpretation can add value to that decision. To achieve that goal, Petrobras developed a fast-track mCSEM interpretation workflow that consists in identifying anomalies in the mCSEM data set by frequency normalization, and then performing 1D CMP inversions followed by 2.5D polygonal (...)

Tectonic Framework of the Barra de São João Graben, Campos Basin, Brazil: Insights From Gravity Data Interpretation.Leandro B. Adriano, Paulo T. L. Menezes & Alan S. Cunha - 2014 - Interpretation: SEG 2 (4):SJ65-SJ74.
The Barra de São João Graben, shallow water Campos Basin, is part of the Cenozoic rift system that runs parallel to the Brazilian continental margin. This system was formed in an event that caused the reactivation of the main Precambrian shear zones of southeastern Brazil in the Paleocene. We proposed a new structural framework of BSJG based on gravity data interpretation. Magnetic data, one available 2D seismic line, and a density well-log of a nearby well were used as constraints to (...)

High-Resolution Acoustic Impedance Inversion to Characterize Turbidites at Marlim Field, Campos Basin, Brazil.Tatiane M. Nascimento, Paulo T. L. Menezes & Igor L. Braga - 2014 - Interpretation: SEG 2 (3):T143-T153.
Seismic inversion is routinely used to determine rock properties, such as acoustic impedance and porosity, from seismic data. Nonuniqueness of the solutions is a major issue. A good strategy to reduce this inherent ambiguity of the inversion procedure is to introduce stratigraphic and structural information a priori to better construct the low-frequency background model. This is particularly relevant when studying heterogeneous deepwater turbidite reservoirs that form prolific, but complex, hydrocarbon plays in the Brazilian offshore basins. We evaluated a high-resolution inversion (...)

    A New Petrophysical Joint Inversion Workflow: Advancing on Reservoir’s Characterization Challenges.Fabio Miotti, Andrea Zerilli, Paulo T. L. Menezes, João L. S. Crepaldi & Adriano R. Viana - 2018 - Interpretation: SEG 6 (3):SG33-SG39.
Reservoir characterization objectives are to understand the reservoir rocks and fluids through accurate measurements to help asset teams develop optimal production decisions. Within this framework, we develop a new workflow to perform petrophysical joint inversion of seismic and controlled-source electromagnetic data to resolve for reservoirs properties. Our workflow uses the complementary information contained in seismic, CSEM, and well-log data to improve the reservoir’s description drastically. The advent of CSEM, measuring resistivity, brought the possibility of integrating multiphysics data within the characterization (...)

The Jequitinhonha Basin is one of the sedimentary basins in the Brazilian Eastern Margin. Although several regional studies have been conducted to define its tectonic framework and petroleum system, neither one is very well-understood. For instance, the extent and influence of the volcanic rocks in the petroleum system of the JB are still matters of debate among geoscientists. We found a new integrated interpretation for the structural framework of JB in which we discover the major faults, the mapped volcanics, and (...)

When collecting and processing geophysical data for exploration, the same geologic feature can generate a different response for each rock property being targeted. Typically, the units of these responses may differ by several orders of magnitude; therefore, the combination of geophysical data in integrated interpretation is not a straightforward process and cannot be performed by visual inspection only. The multiphysics anomaly map that we have developed is a data fusion solution that consists of a spatial representation of the correlation between (...)

The chief aim of this paper is to present some essential elements of the interpretation to the Proslogion carried out by Karl Bathr in his book S. Anselme, Fides Quaerens Intellectum. La preuve de l'existence de Dieu . Taking Anselm's "theological programme" as a point of departure, Barth indentifíes the central lines for the reading of the chapters 2-4 of the Proslogion. We shall attempt to point out both the signifícance and the achievement of that interpretation as a contribution to (...)

Among various cases that equally admit of evidentialist reasoning, the supposedly evidentialist solution has varying degrees of intuitive attractiveness. I suggest that cooperative reasoning may account for the appeal of apparently evidentialist behavior in the cases in which it is intuitively attractive, while the inapplicability of cooperative reasoning may account for the unattractiveness of evidentialist behaviour in other cases. A collective causal power with respect to agreed outcomes, not evidentialist reasoning, makes cooperation attractive in the Prisoners' Dilemma. And a natural (...)

High-Resolution Facies Modeling of Presalt Lacustrine Carbonates Reservoir Analog: Morro Do Chaves Formation Example, Sergipe-Alagoas Basin, Brazil.Paulo T. L. Menezes, Jandyr M. Travassos, Marco A. M. Medeiros & Patricia Takayama - 2016 - Interpretation: SEG 4 (2):SE63-SE74.
Barremian lacustrine carbonates, mainly coquinas, are the reservoir rocks of the large presalt petroleum discoveries in deep to ultradeepwaters, at the southeast Brazilian margin, namely, the Santos, Campos, and Espirito Santo Basins. The complex geologic setting of those discoveries, with massive overburden of salt bodies, makes the seismic imaging of the carbonate reservoirs an expensive and challenging issue. In this setting, accurate facies models are a requirement to the predictability of the carbonate reservoir intervals. We have developed an analog high-resolution (...)

    Connecting Onshore-Offshore Campos Basin Structures: Interpretation of High-Resolution Airborne Magnetic Data.Juarez Lourenço, Paulo T. L. Menezes & Valeria C. F. Barbosa - 2014 - Interpretation: SEG 2 (4):SJ35-SJ45.
We interpreted northwest-trending transfer faults whose extensions are not entirely mapped in the Precambrian basement of the onshore and offshore Campos Basin. To enhance the subtle northwest–southeast lineaments not clearly seen in the total-field data, we reprocessed and merged two airborne magnetic data sets aiming at producing a single merged magnetic data set. Next, we applied a directional filter to these integrated magnetic data. Finally, we applied a multiscale edge detection method to these filtered data. This combination allowed the detection (...)

What fundamental aim should be seen as animating egalitarian views of distributive justice? I want to challenge a certain answer to this question: namely, that the basic aim of egalitarianism is to neutralize the effects of luck on the distribution of goods in society. I shall also sketch part of a different answer, which I think does a better job of supporting egalitarianism. My arguments here are not presented in a way that is intended to win over those who have (...)

Walter Freeman's theory of nonlinear neurodynamics has had a major impact on brain dynamics in modern cognitive neuroscience. Steven Bressler's theory of neurocognitive networks follows from Freeman's work, and his empirical evidence for the coordination of cortical areas by phase-coupled beta rhythms in large-scale cognitive brain networks supports Freeman's ideas on nonlinear brain dynamics. Bressler's work, taking Freeman's concepts into the realm of cognitive neurodynamics, also supports Scott Kelso's theory of metastability in coordination dynamics. The aims of the present paper (...)

Salt basins, mainly Tertiary basins with mobilized salt, are notoriously difficult places to explore because of the traditionally poor seismic images typically obtained around and below salt bodies. In areas where the salt structures are extremely complex, the seismic signal-to-noise ratio may still be limited and, therefore, complicate the estimation of the velocity field variations that could be used to migrate the seismic data correctly and recover a good image suitable for prospect generation. We have evaluated the results of an (...)

In several enigmatic passages, Paulo Freire describes the pedagogy of the oppressed as a ‘pedagogy of laughter’. The inclusion of laughter alongside problem‐posing dialogue might strike some as ambiguous, considering that the global exploitation of the poor is no laughing matter. And yet, laughter seems to be an important aspect of the pedagogy of the oppressed. In this paper, I examine the role of laughter in Freire's critical pedagogy through a series of questions: Are all forms of laughter equally (...)

    Causation: A User’s Guide.L. A. Paul & Ned Hall - 2013 - Oxford University Press UK.
Causation is at once familiar and mysterious. Neither common sense nor extensive philosophical debate has led us to anything like agreement on the correct analysis of the concept of causation, or an account of the metaphysical nature of the causal relation.
