    A Propos du Renouveau Annoncé de la Métaphysique.Pierre Uzan - 2016 - Logos and Episteme 7 (3):305-323.
In this paper, we evaluate the project of resurgence of metaphysics based on the pecularity of the quantum domain, a project that is supported by some contemporary philosophers. Beyond the general arguments against scientific realism that are still applicable here, we show that this project is faced with the three following issues that, we believe, make it unrealizable: (a) the problem raised by the realistic interpretation of the wave function, as a description of a ‘concrete physical fact’ of the independent (...)

  2. Conscience et physique quantique.Pierre Uzan (ed.) - 2012 - Paris, France: VRIN.

The Arrow of Time and Meaning.Pierre Uzan - 2007 - Foundations of Science 12 (2):109-137.
All the attempts to find the justification of the privileged evolution of phenomena exclusively in the external world need to refer to the inescapable fact that we are living in such an asymmetric universe. This leads us to look for the origin of the “arrow of time” in the relationship between the subject and the world. The anthropic argument shows that the arrow of time is the condition of the possibility of emergence and maintenance of life in the universe. Moreover, (...)

    Deciding the Mind–Body Problem Experimentally.Pierre Uzan - 2017 - Axiomathes 27 (4):333-354.
A Bell-type strategy of decision for the long-standing question of the nature of psychophysical correlations has been previously presented in a recent article published in Mind and Matter. This strategy of decision is here applied to experimental data on psychophysiological correlations, namely, correlations between cardiovascular and emotional variables that have been reported in several independent publications. This statistical analysis shows that a substantial majority of these correlations cannot be interpreted as an exchange of signals or a mere “interaction”, whatever its (...)

    Informational Branching Universe.Pierre Uzan - 2010 - Foundations of Science 15 (1):1-28.
This paper suggests an epistemic interpretation of Belnap’s branching space-times theory based on Everett’s relative state formulation of the measurement operation in quantum mechanics. The informational branching models of the universe are evolving structures defined from a partial ordering relation on the set of memory states of the impersonal observer. The totally ordered set of their information contents defines a linear “time” scale to which the decoherent alternative histories of the informational universe can be referred—which is quite necessary for assigning (...)

    The Quantum-Like Approach of Psychosomatic Phenomena in Application.Pierre Uzan - 2014 - Axiomathes 24 (3):359-374.
The quantum-like approach of psychosomatic phenomena suggests an explanation of the correlations between mind and body in terms of quantum-like entanglement, that is, without appealing to any concept of psychophysical, efficient causality. This approach is developed within the Hilbert space formalism and its general consequences are drawn. It is first illustrated by a simple, qualitative model of the placebo effect which shows that representing psychosomatic states by entangled states can explain that purely psychological factors can produce a-causal changes of physiological (...)

    Logique quantique et intrication.Pierre Uzan - 2014 - Logos and Episteme 5 (3):303-318.
Due to the failure of the classical principles of bivalence and verifunctionality, the logic of experimental propositions relative to quantum systemscannot be interpreted in Boolean algebras. However, we cannot say neither that this logic is captured by orthomodular lattices, as claimed by many authors along the line of Birkhoff‘s and von Neumann‘s standard approach. For the alleged violation of distributivity is based on the possibility of combining statements relative to complementary contexts, which does not refer to any experience and, consequently, (...)

    Physique, information statistique et complexité algorithmique.Pierre Uzan - 2007 - Philosophia Scientiae 11 (2):121-162.
The relationship between physics and information is explored and the conceptual and technical limitations of the use of the notion of statistical information in physics are emphasised. It is shown that these issues can be satisfactorily resolved by using a notion of structural information, the measure of which is provided in terms of algorithmic complexity. This makes possible the construction of a genuine “thermodynamics” of information based on the concept of structural information.RésuméLe lien entre physique et information est analysé et (...)
