Full development of Tarski's geometry of solids.Rafaŀ Gruszczyński & Andrzej Pietruszczak - 2008 - Bulletin of Symbolic Logic 14 (4):481-540.
In this paper we give probably an exhaustive analysis of the geometry of solids which was sketched by Tarski in his short paper [20, 21]. We show that in order to prove theorems stated in [20, 21] one must enrich Tarski's theory with a new postulate asserting that the universe of discourse of the geometry of solids coincides with arbitrary mereological sums of balls, i.e., with solids. We show that once having adopted such a solution Tarski's Postulate 4 can be (...)

Fake news detection platform—conceptual architecture and prototype.RafaŁ Kozik, Marek Pawlicki, Sebastian Kula & Michał Choraś - 2022 - Logic Journal of the IGPL 30 (6):1005-1016.
Countering the fake news phenomenon has become one of the most important challenges for democratic societies, governments and non-profit organizations, as well as for the researchers coming from several domains. This is not a local problem and demands a holistic approach to analyzing heterogeneous data and storing the results. The research problem we face in this paper is the proposition of an innovative distributed architecture to tackle the above-mentioned problems. The architecture uses state-of-the-art technologies with a focus on efficiency, scalability (...)

‘Cropped out’: The collaborative production of an accusation of racism.Daniella Rafaely - 2021 - Discourse Studies 23 (3):324-338.
This article utilises the concept of ‘race trouble’ as an overarching framework for examining an interview between Ms Vanessa Nakate and a South African news broadcaster. The interview describes an incident involving Ms Nakate’s attendance at a global climate change conference and her exclusion from a media report about a press briefing that she held along with four other youth activists at the conference. The analysis focuses on the collaborative and interactional production of Ms Nakate’s claim that her exclusion was (...)

    The Ism in Veganism: The Case for a Minimal Practice-based Definition.Jonathan Dickstein & Jan Dutkiewicz - 2021 - Food Ethics 6 (1):1-19.
This article argues for limiting the definition of the term “veganism” to a minimal one that denotes veganism as the abstention from the consumption of animal-derived products, thereby treating it as a neutral term exclusively describing a pattern of action. As the practice of veganism has become popularized, the promotion of veganism and animal rights has gained mainstream attention, and scholarly research on veganism has proliferated, the term veganism has often come to be used to denote an ethical or political (...)

Online Interactivity – A Shift towards E-textbook-based Medical Education.Aldona Dutkiewicz, Barbara Kołodziejczak, Piotr Leszczyński, Iwona Mokwa-Tarnowska, Paweł Topol, Barbara Kupczyk & Idzi Siatkowski - 2018 - Studies in Logic, Grammar and Rhetoric 56 (1):177-192.
Textbooks have played the leading role in academic education for centuries and their form has evolved, adapting to the needs of students, teachers and technological possibilities. Advances in technology have caused educators to look for new sources of knowledge development, which students could use inside and outside the classroom. Today’s sophisticated learning tools range from virtual environments to interactive multimedia resources, which can be called e-textbooks. Different types of new educational materials that go beyond printed books are now used to (...)

A Public Health Ethics Case for Mitigating Zoonotic Disease Risk in Food Production.Justin Bernstein & Jan Dutkiewicz - 2021 - Food Ethics 6 (2):1-25.
This article argues that governments in countries that currently permit intensive animal agriculture - especially but not exclusively high-income countries - are, in principle, morally justified in taking steps to restrict or even eliminate intensive animal agriculture to protect public health from the risk of zoonotic pandemics. Unlike many extant arguments for restricting, curtailing, or even eliminating intensive animal agriculture which focus on environmental harms, animal welfare, or the link between animal source food (ASF) consumption and noncommunicable disease, the argument (...)

The Opportunity Gap: Achievement and Inequality in Education.Carol DeShano da Silva, James Philip Huguley, Zenub Kakli & Radhika Rao (eds.) - 2007 - Harvard Educational Review.
_The Opportunity Gap_ aims to shift attention from the current overwhelming emphasis on schools in discussions of the achievement gap to more fundamental questions about social and educational opportunity. The achievement gap looms large in the current era of high-stakes testing and accountability. Yet questions persist: Has the accountability movement—and attendant discussions on the achievement gap—focused attention on the true sources of educational failure in American schools? Do we need to look beyond classrooms and schools for credible accounts of disparities (...)
