Linking Visions: Feminist Bioethics, Human Rights, and the Developing World.Karen L. Baird, María Julia Bertomeu, Martha Chinouya, Donna Dickenson, Michele Harvey-Blankenship, Barbara Ann Hocking, Laura Duhan Kaplan, Jing-Bao Nie, Eileen O'Keefe, Julia Tao Lai Po-wah, Carol Quinn, Arleen L. F. Salles, K. Shanthi, Susana E. Sommer, Rosemarie Tong & Julie Zilberberg - 2004 - Rowman & Littlefield Publishers.
This collection brings together fourteen contributions by authors from around the globe. Each of the contributions engages with questions about how local and global bioethical issues are made to be comparable, in the hope of redressing basic needs and demands for justice. These works demonstrate the significant conceptual contributions that can be made through feminists' attention to debates in a range of interrelated fields, especially as they formulate appropriate responses to developments in medical technology, global economics, population shifts, and poverty.

    Ascent to the Absolute.Richard Hocking - 1971 - The Owl of Minerva 3 (1):1-4.
The question has been stirring in the minds of those who have the Cave volumes before them. The present book, bearing the title Ascent to the Absolute, with its fifteen “metaphysical papers and lectures”, brings substantial support to the answer which is to be found in the Gifford Lectures.

The Anatomy of Idealism: Passivity and Activity in Kant, Hegel and Marx.Richard Hocking - 1986 - Idealistic Studies 16 (2):155-156.
In four compact chapters, Kant and Marx are appraised in terms of their accounts of human passivity and activity. Comparatively brief examinations of Hegel’s treatment of this theme provide a transition from Kant to Marx. The “idealism” of Kant is found to be incoherent. Contradictions abound in it. The “naturalism” of Marx is free of contradictions; it carries the day. The writer’s style is a close explication of texts. The reader does well to have the sources at his elbow.

    Event, Act, and Presence.Richard Hocking - 1970 - Review of Metaphysics 24 (1):39 - 56.
PHILOSOPHERS have a patrimony of ninety generations or so of philosophical experience. Collingwood's plea that we take this cumulative legacy seriously I am disposed to repeat. Philosophical experience rewards the labor of philosophic thought quite as geological experience rewards the labor of geological thought, and mathematical experience that of mathematical thought. Philosophical experience brings to light the categories and categorial order. It thus makes its contribution to interscientific meaning, which is the distinction and mark of philosophy among the sciences. Think (...)

    Royce, Forty Years Later.Royce's Social Infinite--The Community of Interpretation.Richard Hocking - 1956 - Review of Metaphysics 10 (1):64 - 72.
On September 14, 1956, we shall be observing the fortieth anniversary of Royce's death. Fortunately, we are near enough to 1916 so that two of the authors, Mr. Robinson and Mr. Cotton, can share with their readers some of the direct experience gained from having sat in Royce's classes and from remembering the living habits of his mind.

In Oregon, doctors are allowed to kill patients who are terminal and want to die. In Vermont, they're debating whether to do that. And in Holland, they not only allow euthanasia, but also at least two doctors there are killing babies born with catastrophic illness.

    Within Human Experience: The Philosophy of W E Hocking[REVIEW]F. F. Centore - 1971 - Philosophical Studies (Dublin) 20:316-319.
Dr Rouner has produced a highly readable and, if one may judge by those whom he had check his facts, W E Hocking and his son Richard Hocking, also a very reliable book. The book is a largely reworked Columbia University doctoral dissertation, originally done under the direction of W Pauck, J H Randall, claimed by the author to be ‘the foremost English-speaking historian of modern Western philosophy’, and M S Bates.

    Complementary Learning Systems.Randall C. O’Reilly, Rajan Bhattacharyya, Michael D. Howard & Nicholas Ketz - 2014 - Cognitive Science 38 (6):1229-1248.
This paper reviews the fate of the central ideas behind the complementary learning systems (CLS) framework as originally articulated in McClelland, McNaughton, and O’Reilly (1995). This framework explains why the brain requires two differentially specialized learning and memory systems, and it nicely specifies their central properties (i.e., the hippocampus as a sparse, pattern-separated system for rapidly learning episodic memories, and the neocortex as a distributed, overlapping system for gradually integrating across episodes to extract latent semantic structure). We review the application (...)
