The starting point of this article is the publication of twenty-four Cretan relief pithoi fragments kept in the Benaki Museum. I attribute fifteen of them to the so-called Aphrati workshop. This attribution is built on the basis of both traditional (i.e. stylistic) criteria and indications offered by the tools used for the decoration of the vases. Furthermore, the use of two different sets of criteria provides the opportunity of reconsidering the usual definition of the whole workshop. A new catalogue of (...) its productions is proposed and the map of distribution stemming from it is briefly discussed. (shrink)
