  1. Multidisciplinary Analysis of Hydraulic Stimulation and Production Effects Within the Niobrara and Codell Reservoirs, Wattenberg Field, Colorado — Part 1: Baseline Reservoir Conditions.Matthew Bray, Jacquelyn Daves, Daniel Brugioni, Asm Kamruzzaman, Tom Bratton, Sheila Harryandi, Alena Grechishnikova, Ali Tura, Thomas Davis & James Simmons - 2021 - Interpretation 9 (4):SG1-SG12.
In the Wattenberg Field, the Reservoir Characterization Project at the Colorado School of Mines and Occidental Petroleum Corporation collected time-lapse seismic data for characterization of changes in the reservoir caused by hydraulic fracturing and production in the Niobrara Formation and Codell Sandstone member of the Carlile Formation. We have acquired three multicomponent seismic surveys to understand the dynamic reservoir changes caused by hydraulic fracturing and production of 11 horizontal wells within a 1 mi2 section. The time-lapse seismic survey acquisition occurred (...)

Potential Subjects' Responses to an Ethics Questionnaire in a Phase I Study of Deep Brain Stimulation in Early Parkinson's Disease.Stuart G. Finder, Mark J. Bliton, Chandler E. Gill, Thomas L. Davis, Peter E. Konrad & P. D. Charles - 2012 - Journal of Clinical Ethics 23 (3):207-216.
Background Central to ethically justified clinical trial design is the need for an informed consent process responsive to how potential subjects actually comprehend study participation, especially study goals, risks, and potential benefits. This will be particularly challenging when studying deep brain stimulation and whether it impedes symptom progression in Parkinson’s disease, since potential subjects will be Parkinson’s patients for whom deep brain stimulation will likely have therapeutic value in the future as their disease progresses.Method As part of an expanded informed (...)

Contemporary Moral and Social Issues: An Introduction Through Original Fiction, Discussion, and Readings.Thomas D. Davis - 2014 - Wiley-Blackwell.
_Contemporary Moral and Social Issues_ is a uniquely entertaining introduction that brings ethical thought to life. It makes innovative use of engaging, topically oriented original short fiction, together with classic and influential readings and editorial discussion as a means of helping students think philosophically about ethical theory and practical ethical problems. Introduces students to ethical theory and a range of practical moral issues through a combination of key primary texts, clear editorial commentary, and engaging, original fiction Includes discussion of topics (...)

Beyond the Pale of Forgiveness: The Touchstone of Simon.Thomas A. Davis - 2012 - Philosophy and Literature 36 (2):301-315.
Then is the moral that we all require forgiveness and that forgiveness is always a miracle, taking time but beyond time? This can be said, but how can we establish or deliver the weight or gravity of any such answer? Consider the lament with which Elisabeth Young-Bruehl opens her recent Why Arendt Matters: “What do people make of it when, every time some especially appalling, hard-to-fathom mass crime takes place, ‘the banality of evil’ turns up in their morning newspapers or (...)

Researches over many years have examined whether levonorgestrel emergency contraception has a postfertilization effect. In a recent article in the Catholic Health Association’s journal Health Progress, Sandra Reznik, MD, asserts that “levonorgestrel acts to prevent pregnancy before, and only before, fertilization occurs.” A companion article by Ron Hamel, PhD, argues for the moral certainty that Plan B is not an abortifacient. Reznik fails to address the principal model supporting a potential postfertilization mechanism of action, specifically, that preovulatory administration of levonorgestrel (...)

Poststack, Prestack, and Joint Inversion of P- and S-Wave Data for Morrow A Sandstone Characterization.Paritosh Singh, Thomas L. Davis & Bryan DeVault - 2015 - Interpretation: SEG 3 (3):SZ59-SZ92.
Exploration for oil-bearing Morrow sandstones using conventional seismic data/methods has a startlingly low success rate of only 3%. The S-wave velocity contrast between the Morrow shale and A sandstone is strong compared with the P-wave velocity contrast, and, therefore, multicomponent seismic data could help to characterize these reservoirs. The SV and SH data used in this study are generated using S-wave data from horizontal source and horizontal receiver recording. Prestack P- and S-wave inversions, and joint P- and S-wave inversions, provide (...)

From Ocean-Bottom Cable Seismic to Porosity Volume: A Prestack PP and PS Analysis of a Turbidite Reservoir, Deepwater Campos Basin, Brazil.Luiz M. R. Martins & Thomas L. Davis - 2014 - Interpretation: SEG 2 (2):SE91-SE103.
The Campos Basin is the best known and most productive of the Brazilian coastal basins. Turbidites are, by far, the main hydrocarbon-bearing reservoirs in the Campos Basin. Using a 4C ocean-bottom cable seismic survey, we set out to improve the reservoir characterization in a deepwater turbidite field in the Campos Basin. To achieve our goal, prestack angle gathers were derived and PP and PS inversion were performed. The inversion was used as an input to predict the petrophysical properties of the (...)

Multidisciplinary Analysis of Hydraulic Stimulation and Production Effects Within the Niobrara and Codell Reservoirs, Wattenberg Field, Colorado: Part 2 — Analysis of Hydraulic Fracturing and Production.Matthew Bray, Jakob Utley, Yanrui Ning, Angela Dang, Jacquelyn Daves, Isabel White, Ahmed Alfataierge, Erdinc Eker, Thomas Davis, Ali Tura & James Simmons - forthcoming - Interpretation:1-53.
Enhanced hydrocarbon recovery is essential for continued economic development of unconventional reservoirs. Our study focuses on dynamic characterization of the Niobrara and Codell Formations in Wattenberg Field through the development and analysis of a full integrated reservoir model. We demonstrate the effectiveness of hydraulic fracturing and production with two seismic monitor surveys, surface microseismic, completion data, and production data. The two monitor surveys were recorded after stimulation, and again after two years of production. Identification of reservoir deformation due to hydraulic (...)
