Is the societal-level of analysis sufficient today to understand the values of those in the global workforce? Or are individual-level analyses more appropriate for assessing the influence of values on ethical behaviors across country workforces? Using multi-level analyses for a 48-society sample, we test the utility of both the societal-level and individual-level dimensions of collectivism and individualism values for predicting ethical behaviors of business professionals. Our values-based behavioral analysis indicates that values at the individual-level make a more significant contribution to (...)

Traffic congestion is a common problem in many countries, especially in big cities. At present, China’s urban road traffic accidents occur frequently, the occurrence frequency is high, the accident causes traffic congestion, and accidents cause traffic congestion and vice versa. The occurrence of traffic accidents usually leads to the reduction of road traffic capacity and the formation of traffic bottlenecks, causing the traffic congestion. In this paper, the formation and propagation of traffic congestion are simulated by using the improved medium (...)

Leader behavior significantly influences employees’ safety performance. This study aimed to examine the effect of abusive supervision on the safety behaviors of subordinates. By drawing on the strength model of self-control, we predicted that abusive supervision would negatively affect safety behaviors through emotional exhaustion, and trait self-control and attentional bias toward safety would moderate the relationship between abusive supervision, emotional exhaustion, and safety behaviors. Our hypothesized model was supported by results from a sample of 159 workers at a chemical product (...)

Text-Based Plagiarism in Scientific Publishing: Issues, Developments and Education. [REVIEW]Yongyan Li - 2013 - Science and Engineering Ethics 19 (3):1241-1254.
Text-based plagiarism, or copying language from sources, has recently become an issue of growing concern in scientific publishing. Use of CrossCheck (a computational text-matching tool) by journals has sometimes exposed an unexpected amount of textual similarity between submissions and databases of scholarly literature. In this paper I provide an overview of the relevant literature, to examine how journal gatekeepers perceive textual appropriation, and how automated plagiarism-screening tools have been developed to detect text matching, with the technique now available for self-check (...)

However, when we disagree with each other on moral issues, it is quite rare that either side is persuaded. We could (...)

MAF-CNER : A Chinese Named Entity Recognition Model Based on Multifeature Adaptive Fusion.Xuming Han, Feng Zhou, Zhiyuan Hao, Qiaoming Liu, Yong Li & Qi Qin - 2021 - Complexity 2021:1-9.
Named entity recognition is a subtask in natural language processing, and its accuracy greatly affects the effectiveness of downstream tasks. Aiming at the problem of insufficient expression of potential Chinese features in named entity recognition tasks, this paper proposes a multifeature adaptive fusion Chinese named entity recognition model. The model uses bidirectional long short-term memory neural network to extract stroke and radical features and adopts a weighted concatenation method to fuse two sets of features adaptively. This method can better integrate (...)

    The Confucian Puzzle.Yong Li - 2012 - Asian Philosophy 22 (1):37-50.
The Confucian tradition is famous for its family value. This tradition emphasizes that, after one's moral sentiments are cultivated in the family, one is capable of caring for people outside the family. However, since the early 2000s, there has been a debate in the Chinese Philosophy community about how to understand the ?the father-covering-son? story in the Analects. The story tells that a father covers for his son's stealing a sheep. This is a puzzle because while Confucius's virtue theory implies (...)

Text-Based Plagiarism in Scientific Writing: What Chinese Supervisors Think About Copying and How to Reduce It in Students’ Writing.Yongyan Li - 2013 - Science and Engineering Ethics 19 (2):569-583.
Text-based plagiarism, or textual copying, typically in the form of replicating or patchwriting sentences in a row from sources, seems to be an issue of growing concern among scientific journal editors. Editors have emphasized that senior authors (typically supervisors of science students) should take the responsibility for educating novices against text-based plagiarism. To address a research gap in the literature as to how scientist supervisors perceive the issue of textual copying and what they do in educating their students, this paper (...)

Neural network models have recently made significant achievements in solving vehicle scheduling problems. Adaptive ant colony algorithm provides a new idea for neural networks to solve complex system problems of multiconstrained network intensive vehicle routing models. The pheromone in the path is changed by adjusting the volatile factors in the operation process adaptively. It effectively overcomes the tendency of the traditional ant colony algorithm to fall easily into the local optimal solution and slow convergence speed to search for the global (...)

Despite calls for more research into the writing expertise of senior scientists, the literature reveals surprisingly little about the writing strategies of successful scientist writers. The present paper addresses the gap in the literature by reporting a study that investigated the note-taking strategies of an expert writer, a Chinese professor of biochemistry. Primarily based on interview data, the paper describes the expert’s recontextualization strategies at three levels: ‘accumulating writing materials’ by modifying source texts, composing from ‘collections’ of cut-and-pasted chunks in (...)

An Algebraic Method to Decide the Deduction Problem in Many-Valued Logics.Jinzhao Wu, Hongyan Tan & Yongli Li - 1998 - Journal of Applied Non-Classical Logics 8 (4):353-360.
ABSTRACT We show that there is a polynomial over the rational number field corresponding to each propositional formula in a given many-valued logic. To decide whether a propositional formula can be deduced from a finite set of such formulas (deduction problem), we only need to decide whether a polynomial vanishes on an algebraic variety. By using Wu's method, an algorithm for this problem is presented.

In this study, I will examine the famous 'divine command theory' of Mozi. Through the discussion of several important chapters of Mozi, including Fayi (law), Tianzhi (the will of heaven), Minggui (knowing the spirits) and Jianai (universal love), I attempt to clarify the arguments of Mozi offered in support of his distinctive ideas of serving heaven, knowing the spirits and loving all. The analysis shows that there are serious problems with his assumptions, hence they fail to support his conclusions as (...)

High-dimensional and unbalanced data anomaly detection is common. Effective anomaly detection is essential for problem or disaster early warning and maintaining system reliability. A significant research issue related to the data analysis of the sensor is the detection of anomalies. The anomaly detection is essentially an unbalanced sequence binary classification. The data of this type contains characteristics of large scale, high complex computation, unbalanced data distribution, and sequence relationship among data. This paper uses long short-term memory networks combined with historical (...)

Application of Topological Degree Method for Solutions of Coupled Systems of Multipoints Boundary Value Problems of Fractional Order Hybrid Differential Equations.Muhammad Iqbal, Yongjin Li, Kamal Shah & Rahmat Ali Khan - 2017 - Complexity 2017:1-9.
We established the theory to coupled systems of multipoints boundary value problems of fractional order hybrid differential equations with nonlinear perturbations of second type involving Caputo fractional derivative. The proposed problem is as follows:D cαxt-ft,xt=gt,yt,Iαyt,t∈J=[0,1],D cαyt-ft,yt=gt,xt,Iαxt,t∈J=0,1,D cpx0=ψxη1,x′0=0,…,xn-20=0,D cpx1=ψxη2,D cpy0=ψyη1,y′0=0,…,yn-20=0,D cpy1=ψyη2, wherep,η1,η2∈0,1,ψis linear,D cαis Caputo fractional derivative of orderα, withn-1<α≤n,n∈N, andIαis fractional integral of orderα. The nonlinear functionsf, gare continuous. For obtaining sufficient conditions on existence and uniqueness of positive solutions to the above system, we used the technique of topological degree theory. (...)

The functions involved in the proposed coupled system are continuous and satisfy certain growth conditions. By using topological degree theory some conditions are established which ensure the existence and uniqueness of solution to the proposed problem. Further, certain conditions (...)

    Adaptationism and Early Confucian Moral Psychology.Yong Li - 2015 - Asian Philosophy 25 (1):99-111.
Ryan Nichols in his recent article ‘A genealogy of early Confucian moral psychology’ argues that the discussion of Confucius and Mencius on moral emotions can be provided an evolutionary analysis. Nichols’ argument is based on the evolutionary value of kin-relations and the origin of emotions toward kin in human society. In this article I argue that Nichols’ argument is flawed because he endorses an adaptationist program of human moral psychology. The adaptationists treat kin-relations and our emotions toward kin as a (...)

A New Intelligent Fault Diagnosis Method of Rotating Machinery Under Varying-Speed Conditions Using Infrared Thermography.Yongbo Li, Xianzhi Wang, Shubin Si & Xiaoqiang Du - 2019 - Complexity 2019:1-12.
A novel systematic framework, infrared thermography- based method, for rotating machinery fault diagnosis under nonstationary running conditions is presented in this paper. In this framework, IRT technique is first applied to obtain the thermograph. Then, the fault features are extracted using bag-of-visual-word from the IRT images. In the end, support vector machine is utilized to automatically identify the fault patterns of rotating machinery. The effectiveness of proposed method is evaluated using lab experimental signal of rotating machinery. The diagnosis results show (...)

Existence and Global Exponential Stability of Almost Automorphic Solution for Clifford-Valued High-Order Hopfield Neural Networks with Leakage Delays.Bing Li & Yongkun Li - 2019 - Complexity 2019:1-13.
In this paper, we study the existence and global exponential stability of almost automorphic solutions for Clifford-valued high-order Hopfield neural networks by direct method. That is to say, we do not decompose the systems under consideration into real-valued systems, but we directly study Clifford-valued systems. Our methods and results are new. Finally, an example is given to illustrate our main results.

Since the early 2000s, there has been a debate about the ?the father-covering-son? puzzle in the Analects. In this paper, I present an argument to support that a family-oriented ethics would justify the father-covering-son action; then I argue that this argument provides a perspective on this father-covering-son puzzle but does not solve the puzzle. The argument for the family-oriented ethics has two steps. The first step holds that the contemporary evolutionary theory of kin selection and moral emotions explains our special (...)
