본 연구는 대구 · 경북지역에서 서양철학의 수용과정과 이러한 과정에서 나타나는 연구활동 동향들을 시기별로 분석해 봄으로써, 이 지역에서의 서양철학 연구 특성들에 대해 간략히 정리해 보는 것을 목적으로 삼고 있다. 우선 본 논문에서는 이 지역에서 서양철학의 수용 과정 및 연구 활동과 관련하여 그 시기를 네 가지로 구분하여 살펴보았다. 첫째는 일제 강점기의 서양철학 수용, 둘째는 해방 후에서 1960년대까지 서양철학의 수용, 셋째는 1970년대와 1980년대의 서양철학 연구 동향, 그리고 넷째는 1990년대와 2000년대의 서양철학 연구 활동으로 구분하여 각 시기별로 나타나는 주요 특성들을 간략히 정리해 보았다. 이어서 대구 · 경북의 지역대학에서 약 60여 년 동안 서양철학을 어떻게 수용하였고 또 그런 과정 속에서 어떤 주목할 만한 연구 활동이 있었는지에 대해서도 함께 살펴보면서 그러한 연구 활동에서 나타나는 지역적 특성을 크게 네 가지로 제시하였다. 첫째는 이 지역의 서양철학 연구는 유독 독일철학 분야에 관한 것이 압도적으로 많다는 점이고, 둘째는 이 지역의 철학연구자들은 수도권을 제외하고는 가장 활발한 학회 및 학술활동을 보이고 있다는 점이며, 셋째는 이 지역의 대학에서 서양철학을 배웠던 연구자들이 전국 각지의 대학에서 교수로 활동하는 수가 증가하고 있다는 점이다. 끝으로, 이 지역은 유교적 전통과 분위기로 인해, 서양철학 전공자들 중에 동양철학 연구도 함께 병행하는 경우가 많았다는 특징이 있다.

The purpose of this study is to briefly summarize the characteristics of Western philosophy research in this region by analyzing periods of acceptance of Western philosophy in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk regions and trends in research activities in these processes. First of all, in this paper, the period of the study of Western philosophy"s acceptance process and research activities was divided into four categories. Namely, the first was the acceptance of Western philosophy during the Japanese colonial period, the second was the acceptance of Western philosophy from the liberation to the 1960s, the third was the study of Western philosophy in the 1970s and 1980s, and the fourth was the study of Western philosophy in the 1990s and 2000s. The main characteristics of each period were briefly summarized. Then, we looked at how to accept western philosophy for about 60 years at the regional universities in Daegu-Gyeongbuk, and also some remarkable research activities in the process. And four characteristics of regional research activities were presented. First, there are overwhelmingly many studies on the field of German philosophy in this area. Second, philosophical researchers in this area are characterized by the most active academic organizations and academic activities except for the metropolitan area. Third, the number of researchers who have learned Western philosophy at universities in this region are increasing as professors at universities across the country. Fourth, due to the Confucian tradition and atmosphere, this region is characterized by many cases of Western philosophy majors also conducting research on Eastern philosophy.
