이 글의 목적은 하이데거의 니체 해석의 기저에 깔려 있는 그의 형이상학적 가정을 비판하는 데 있다. 하이데거는 형이상학의 문제를 니체 철학의 주요한 과제로 해석함으로써 니체가 서양철학을 대표하는 철학자의 반열에 이름을 올리는 데 결정적인 기여를 했다. 엇갈린 평가들에도 불구하고, 하이데거의 니체 읽기가 니체 철학을 해석하는 전적으로 새로운 지평을 열었고 현재까지도 니체 해석의 근본적인 방향을 규정하고 있다는 점에서 하이데거 이후의 니체 해석에서 하이데거와의 대결은 불가피한 일이 되었다. 이 글에서 필자는 하이데거와의 대결이 그의 니체 읽기의 문제점을 단순히 지적하거나 니체에 대한 그의 부정적인 평가를 비판하는 것만으로 적절히 이루어질 수 없다고 주장한다. 대신에 그것은 ‘형이상학의 완성이냐 극복이냐’라는 하이데거의 니체 읽기의 기본 구도를 극복하는 것이 되어야 한다고 주장한다. 하이데거의 형이상학적인 틀에 묶여 있는 한, 니체는 전통적인 의미에서든 대안적인 의미에서든 여전히 형이상학자로 남을 수밖에 없다.
이 글에서 필자는 하이데거의 형이상학적 가정 자체를 비판적으로 검토함으로써 니체 해석에서 하이데거의 그림자를 걷어내려고 시도한다. 하이데거는 존재의 진리의 회복을 통한 형이상학의 극복이라는 그의 근본적인 기획을 토대로 니체의 가치물음으로의 전환을 축소시킨다. 필자는 하이데거의 형이상학적 가정이 니체 철학을 해석하는 데 필요하지도 않을 뿐만 아니라 적절하지도 않다는 것을 보여주려고 시도한다. 이러한 시도는 니체를 따라 철학에 대한 전통적인 이해를 극복하는 것이며, 이는 결국 존재물음에서 가치물음으로의 전환이라는 철학에 대한 니체의 급진적 이해에 담긴 자연주의적 함의를 다시 회복하는 것이기도 하다.

The purpose of this paper is to criticize Heidegger’s metaphysical assumptions underlying his interpretation of Nietzsche. Heidegger has been considered to have made a substantial contribution to evaluate Nietzsche as one that represents Western philosophy by interpreting the problem of metaphysics as a major task of Nietzsche’s philosophy. Various evaluations notwithstanding, Heidegger’s reading of Nietzsche seems subject to a radical criticism, in that it opened up a whole new ground to interpret Nietzsche’s philosophy and still defines the fundamental line of interpreting Nietzsche. In this paper, I argue that the confrontation with Heidegger cannot be done properly by simply pointing out the drawbacks of his reading of Nietzsche or criticizing his negative evaluation of Nietzsche. Instead, it should be done by overcoming the very frame of Heidegger’s reading of Nietzsche, in which the key question is this: “Is it the completion of the metaphysics or the renunciation of metaphysics?” As long as we are tied to Heidegger’s metaphysical framework, Nietzsche still remains metaphysical in both traditional and alternative senses.
In this paper, I try to remove the Heidegger’s shadow from the interpretation of Nietzsche by critically examining Heidegger’s metaphysical framework itself. Heidegger reduces Nietzsche’s transition to the question of value based on his fundamental project of overcoming metaphysics back to the restoration of the truth of Being. I try to show that Heidegger’s metaphysical assumption is neither necessary nor appropriate in interpreting Nietzsche’s philosophy. This attempt is to overcome the traditional understanding of philosophy following Nietzsche, and in turn to restores the naturalistic implications of Nietzsche’s radical understanding of philosophy as a transition from the question of being to the question of value.
