Abstract

Abstract:

Charles S. Peirce and Francis Blake were second cousins. Blake was extraordinarily wealthy from inventing a carbon microphone for the Bell Telephone Company. In his time of need, Peirce wrote to Blake asking for financial assistance. Although some of the letters are found in the Peirce archive at Harvard University, the Blake archive at the Massachusetts Historical Society had not been examined. It proved to be a treasure trove of correspondence. This is a report on the contents of the correspondence between them.
