Abstract

As actors who toured the country in the spring of 2009 performing in The Iliad: Book One with the Aquila Theatre Company as part of the "Page and Stage" program, we here discuss some of the challenges and rewards of making Homer's poetry accessible. We found that despite diverse audiences, certain reactions and impressions emerged as patterns. Additionally, we discovered that, just as the audiences were impacted by the performance, we as actors grew in understanding of our craft and our own humanity.
