Zusammenfassung
Auch wenn Tocquevilles Gedanken über die Erziehung und über die Erziehungspolitik nur einen relativ kleinen Platz in seinem Gesamtoeuvre einnehmen, spielt für ihn die Erziehung eine ganz wichtige Rolle in der Demokratie, sodass es kein Zufall ist, dass man im zweiten Band der Démocratie mehrere Stellen findet, an denen die absolute Notwendigkeit einer »Aufklärung « der Menschen behauptet wird: Wo die Menschen sich nur noch nach ihrer Vernunft und nicht mehr einer ihnen äußeren Autorität richten wollen, muss diese Vernunft über ihre wahren, langfristigen Interessen aufgeklärt werden.
