본 연구의 목적은 비교과 활동으로서 독서 비평문 쓰기가 가진 교육적 의미를 확인하는 데 있다. 이를 위해 부산대학교 교양교육원에서 실시한 비교과 프로그램 ‘고전·명저 비평문 저자되기’에 참여하여 자기주도적 독서와 비평문 쓰기를 한 학생들의 경험을 자료로 활용하였다.
연구 결과 프로그램 참가 후, 참여자들은 독서와 관련하여 자신에게 맞는 독서 전략과 방법을 찾아내는 한편, 나를 중심에 둔 독서를 하는 변화를 보였다. 글쓰기에서는 비평문 형식에 대한 이해는 물론 자신만의 비평문 쓰기 방식을 찾아내고 글쓰기가 소통과 교류의 수단이라는 것을 이해하게 된 것으로 나타났다. 또 비평문 쓰는 방법에 대한 이해와 글의 내용 구성을 위해 자료를 찾고 글을 쓰는 과정에서 자기주도적 학습능력과 문제 해결력의 향상을 경험한 것으로 나타났다. 50권의 독서와 비평문 쓰기 과정에서 자기 성찰의 기회를 가졌으며, 프로그램이 끝난 후 자기 성장을 인식하고 성취감을 느낀 것으로도 나타났다. 또 공감과 소통능력, 공동체성에 대한 인식이 증가하고 그 외에도 삶의 가치로서 성실성, 독단의 경계, 다양한 관점의 중요성을 깨달은 것으로 나타났다.

The purpose of this study is to identify the educational meaning of writing a critique as an extracurricular program. Students who participated in the program of Pusan National University’s Institute of Liberal Arts, ‘Become an author of a critique for prestigious classic books’, read books as a self-directed way and wrote a critique of them. Their personal narratives of experiencing this program were used as data of this study.
The results have showed that the participants found a suitable strategy and method of reading and changed their way of reading to be centered on themselves. It has been shown that students were able to find their own way of writing a critique and understand a writing process as a means of communication and exchange as well as an understanding of form of critical texts. The study has also found that they improved self-directed learning abilities and problem-solving abilities in the process of understanding how to write critical texts, finding data to construct the contents of writings and writing a critique.
In the process of reading 50 prestigious classic books and writing its critiques, students could have an opportunity to reflect on themselves. After the program was over, they have recognized their growth and felt a sense of accomplishment. In addition, the awareness of empathy, communication ability, and sense of community were increased, and it was also found that they realized the importance of sincerity, the boundary of dogma, and various perspectives as values of life.
