The book offers the first systematic comparative treatment of the thoughts of Nietzsche and Merleau-Ponty. Through an account of each philosopher’s thought as organized around their ambiguous relationship with the concept of truth, the book offers an elucidation of the concept of ambiguity and its dependence on the absolute as one of the determining features of modern thinking.

Frank Chouraqui is Assistant Professor of Philosophy at Koç University, Istanbul. He is the author of several articles and chapters on Nietzsche and on phenomenological ontology He is the translator and editor of Louis Auguste Blanqui’s Eternity by the Stars.

Frank Chouraqui must be congratulated. No one, until Chouraqui, has attempted to bring Merleau-Ponty and Nietzsche together. Chouraqui investigates each thinker in his own terms and context, without succumbing to anecdotal or linguistic similarities. Intentionality, and therefore phenomenology, is the hinge between the two thinkers. By placing intentionality at the center of their thinking, Chouraqui allows us to see philosophically significant connections between Nietzsche and Merleau-Ponty, but also connections between each of these thinkers and other figures.
