『주역』은 상징성을 지닌 卦象의 부호체계를 통하여 무한한 해석 공간을 제공한다. 이를 통하여 『주역』은 다양한 방향으로 확장되어 여러 다른 영역들과 융합하여 새로운 해석을 산출해 낸다. 바로『주역』 해석학에서 말하는 旁通과 융합이다. 여기에서 말하는 방통은 『주역』의 무한한 해석 공간의 확대와 연장을 말하고, 융합은 방통에 의한 해석 내용의 다양성과 변화를 의미한다. 본 논문은『주역』 해석의 확장과 융합에서 발생하는 해석의 범위와 한계, 해석의 주관과 객관, 경전의 원의와 해석의 변화 및 해석의 규범 등의 문제들에 대해 논의하려고 한다. 이런 문제들을 분석하기 위해서는 다양한 해석의 공간을 제공하는 象, 괘효에 보이는 象 · 辭 · 意의 관계에서 발생하는 象數的 해석과 義理的 해석, 『주역』의 直釋과 旁通이라는 해석의 유형 등과 같은 『주역』 해석학의 기본적인 관점과 내용들에 대한 선결적인 논의가 있어야 한다. 이런 논의들을 통하여 『주역』 해석학이 가지고 있는 기본적 방향과 특징 및 쟁점이 무엇인가를 밝혀 보려는 것이 본 논문이 가진 목적이다.

Zhouyi (semantically, the Book of Changes) provides limitless space of interpretation through the signal system of symbolic Gua Xiang(卦象). This way, Zhouyi creates new interpretations through the expansion in different directions and the conflation with other fields. It is the comprehensive interpretation and conflation in Zhouyi hermeneutics. Herein, the comprehensive interpretation means the expansion and continuity of limitless interpretation for Zhouyi, and the conflation means the diversity and change of the interpretation contents.
This study intends to discuss several crucial problems: the scope and limit, the subjectivity and objectivity of interpretation, the original meanings of the scriptures, and the changes and the norms of the interpretation that arise from the expansion and fusion of Zhouyi interpretation. To analyze these problems, there is a need to first discuss the basic views and contents of Zhouyi hermeneutics such as the following types of interpretation: an interpretation of Xiang(象) providing different interpretation space; an interpretation from the perspective of images and symbols and meanings produced from the relations of Xiang · judgement(辭) · implication(意) seen in Gua Yao(卦爻); the direct interpretation and comprehensive interpretation of Zhouyi. This study intends to identify the basic directions, characteristics, and issues of Zhouyi hermeneutics based on that discussion.
