Given the high levels of patriotism demonstrated in various parts of the world today, it is important to examine philosophically the nature and function of patriotism, as well as its possible moral justification. This is precisely what this special issue sets out to do, among other things. It is with great pride that The Journal of Ethics features this special issue on Patriotism, guest edited by Professor Igor Primoratz. The contributors are Professors Robert Audi, Bernard R. Boxill, Margaret Gilbert, Margaret Moore, Stephen Nathanson, and Andrew Vincent. The Journal wishes to thank each of these contributors, and especially Professor Primoratz, for producing such stimulating studies.
