Abstract

abstract:

In this paper I contend that there is a significant divergence between Aristotle's Eudemian and Nicomachean Ethics when it comes to the importance of, and the role attributed to, habit and habituation in the development of virtue. More specifically, I argue that Aristotle's theory of habituation as developed in EN II.1–4 is unparalleled in the EE. The latter presents evidence of a different view on habituation and the role thereof. In the second part of my contribution, I further use this conclusion to associate the so-called common books with the Eudemian Ethics.
