Zusammenfassung
Der Artikel geht von der soziopolitischen Funktion des Heiligtums von Olympia für die Formierung kollektiver Identitäten auf verschiedenen Ebenen (lokal, regional, hellenisch) aus. Er behandelt die Einrichtung der theoria und der theorodokia als ein wichtiges Element der entsprechenden Prozesse. Dabei konzentriert er sich auf die Regularitäten dieser Einrichtung in Elis, Olympia und damit verbundenen Gebieten der griechischen Welt, auf die konkreten Aktivitäten und Prozeduren der theoroi (Reisen, Kulthandlungen) sowie auf die theoroi und theorodokoi als Netzwerke und deren Einfluss auf die griechische Ethnogenese.
Summary
Taking as point of departure the social-political function of the sanctuary of Olympia for the formation of collective identities at different levels (local, regional, Hellenic), the article deals with the institution of theoria and theorodokia as an important feature of the respective processes. It focuses on the rules and regulations of this institution in Elis, Olympia, and related parts of the Greek world, on concrete activities and procedures of the theoroi (travels, ceremonies), and on the theoroi and theorodokoi as networks and their impact on Greek ethnogenesis.
