Notes

  1. Husserl (1991, 1999, 2009).

  2. Hua. XVII, 250; Husserl (1969).

  3. See especially Husserliana I, §§55–56 and §58.

  4. “For although the description, in each case, of the manner in which another person may appear to me, or how another person himself appears to me, or, finally, how I appear to myself is something different from the description of myself or the description of the other person himself, etc., nevertheless, the consciousness in which I am an object to myself, just as every consciousness, is an I-experience, just as the consciousness in which another person stands over against me is an I-experience” (p. 13). The layers of nested clauses are much smoother in the original German: “Denn wenn auch die Beschreibung der jeweiligen Weise, wie mir etwa ein Anderer oder wie ein Anderer mir selbst oder endlich wie ich mir selbst erscheine, etwas anderes ist als die Beschreibung meines Ich selbst, die Beschreibung der fremden Person selbst u.dgl., so ist doch das Bewusstsein, in dem ich mir selbst gegenständlich bin, wie jedes Bewusstsein ein Icherlebnis und ebenso das Bewusstsein, in dem mir ein Anderer gegenübersteht” (Husserliana XIII, 123).
