Hodie honoramus egregiam magistram linguae Latinae, quondam studiosam animalium mansuefactorum, bene merentem nomen deae carissimae feris animalibus. Alumna civitatis deo gratiam habentis,1 propter caeruleum gramen illustris, est potita gradu Baccalaureae Scientiae in Agri Cultura apud universitatem concordiam petentem,2 deinde exploravit artem feturae apud universitatem iungentem scientiam cum usu.3 Sed tunc, postquam perdidicit linguas Romanorum Graecorumque apud doctam domum plenam eruditionis et religionis et caeruleorum diabolorum,4 et attigit gradum Baccalaureae Artis in lingua Germanorum apud universitatem commune vinculum omnibus artibus promulgentem,5 est adepta gradum Magistrae Artis et in lingua Latina et in lingua Graeca apud universitatem testudinem colentem.6 Academia praeclara, quae efficit ut noscere vivere sit,7 in hac urbe floruit propter industriam sapientiamque eius; eius laboribus prudentiaque quoque roboravit hanc societatem. Plaudamus igitur Diana Leigh Jensen.

________

Today we honor an outstanding Latin teacher, whose early academic interests evoke the fauna associated with her divine Roman namesake. A native of the bluegrass state, she earned a BS in Agriculture there, at the University of Kentucky, then spent two years in the Animal Breeding graduate program at Iowa State University. But then, after completing the undergraduate Latin and Greek requirements at Duke University, she received a BA in German at the University of Minnesota and earned an MA in both Latin and Greek at the University of Maryland, College Park. The Maret School here in Washington, DC has flourished as a result of her energy and wisdom; her service as [End Page 483] a member of its board and program committee has strengthened this organization. Let us thus applaud Diana Leigh Jensen.
