He has spent twenty years developing sociological tools and techniques for understanding user behaviour that lead to the design of more innovative computer technologies. Before coming to MSR Cambridge, he ran his own digital technology companies, prior to which he led an interdisciplinary research centre at the University of Surrey, where he was also appointed the UK’s first Professor of Socio—Digital Systems. He commenced his research at Xerox EuroPARC, after completing his PhD at Manchester. He has published over 130 articles, eight books, and has three patents.
