Abstract
In Japan, the concept of diversity has come to the fore since the year 2000 when the former national business federation Keidanren launched a research group focussing on diversity (Hotta, 2015; Taniguchi, 2008). In addition, the promotion of female employees has become one of the most important initiatives to encourage diversity in the workplace and the initiative is integral to business strategy (Hotta, 2015; Morisawa & Kihara, 2005; Tanikawa, 2012).
