For example, phrases like “the new scientific practice” and “the new science” that in the originals referred to the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries have been changed here to “new scientific practices” and “the reformed scientific enterprise”—changes that are minor in themselves, and are not imposed consistently, but still register a changed view of the unity and identity of the subject.
