Abstract

A new examination of the Epinikos Decree offers epigraphic evidence for Ptolemy Keraunos, King of Macedonia. According to the arguments developed here, the Epinikos Decree concerns not the Ptolemaic presence in the Aegean at the time of Ptolemy III, but rather the Celtic invasion in Aegean Thrace, in 280/279 BC. Thus it offers us an important piece of information for a period of Hellenistic history for which the sources are scanty.
