Zur Psychodynamik von Migration

Migrationen stellen hohe Anforderungen an psychische Verarbeitungsfähigkeiten, sind sie doch unvermeidlich mit Trennungen, Verlusten und Wagnissen verbunden, insbesondere mit dem Risiko des im weiteren Sinne »Nicht-Ankommens«, während zugleich Hoffnungen auf Verbesserung bestehen. Im Falle ungünstiger Bedingungen kann die psychische Verarbeitung von Verlust misslingen; es dominieren Überforderungen und die Schwierigkeiten, das im Zuge der Wanderung Verlorene oder Nicht-Erreichte zu betrauern. Diese unbewältigten Aspekte werden transgenerational in hohem Maße wirksam, umso mehr, als Migration sich häufig als ein »intergenerationales Erwartungsprojekt« beschreiben lässt, bei dem die Kinder, so der Wunsch, beweisen sollen, dass sich die Mühen der Migration gelohnt haben. Im vorliegenden Beitrag werden migrationstypische Konstellationen transgenerationaler Weitergabe beschrieben sowie psychische Folgen in der Adoleszenz mit Blick auf destruktive und produktive Potenziale erörtert.

The psychodynamics of migration: Patterns of transgenerational transfer and their consequences in adolescence
Migration invariably makes heavy demands on psychic processing capacities. It is inextricably bound up with separation, loss, and hazards, notably the risk of »not arriving« (physically and mentally) commingled with hopes that things will get better. If the conditions are unfavorable, the psychic processing of loss may fail. The difficulties appear unsurmountable, it becomes all but impossible to mourn for what one has lost or failed to achieve on the journey. These un-coped-with aspects have a major transgenerational effect, particularly as migration can frequently be seen as an »intergenerational expectation project« in which the children are expected to furnish »proof« that the effort of migration has been worth all the trouble. The article describes migration-typical constellations of transgenerational transfer and discusses psychic consequences in adolescence in terms both of their positive and negative potentialities.

Les migrations soumettent les capacités d’adaptation psychiques à de lourds défis. Elles provoquent inévitablement des séparations, des pertes et des prises de risque, notamment celui de «ne pas arriver», en même temps qu’elles suscitent l’espoir d’un avenir meilleur. Si les conditions sont défavorables, le travail psychique de la perte peut échouer, et dominent alors le stress et la difficulté de faire le deuil de ce qui a été perdu et n’a pas été atteint. Ces défis non résolus ont des effets transgénérationnels considérables, et ce d’autant plus que la migration est souvent décrite comme «projet d’avenir intergénérationnel» qui exige des enfants qu’ils apportent la preuve que la migration est un gain. L’article décrit divers contextes typiques de transmission intergénérationnelle dans le cadre migratoire ainsi que les conséquences psychiques dans l’adolescence, compte tenu des potentialités constructives et destructives de cette dernière.
