Response to the Master Censors

Abstract

One short year ago, when I brought together a few friends in the columns of a weekly, I had no idea that the “new philosophers”—the title of the publication—would have such a strange fate. We were stating, repeating our refusal of clans, sects and churches. I have never since failed to note the disparity between these writers—who often had nothing in common save biographical chance. And suddenly a so-called debate is giving form and unity to that which had none whatsoever. An army of master censors is dead set on imprisoning free and dispersed thoughts. Perhaps, I did commit the error of inventing or proposing the word: others will receive the credit for fashioning the thing.
