Paper read on November 3, 1988 before the Philosophical Society of Fribourg (Switzerland) — In China we use “social sciences” to refer to all disciplines in the humanities and the social sciences. The expression is juxtaposed to “natural sciences”. Since I do not discuss such subjects as economics, education, journalism, and other practical fields, I prefer to use here the term “human sciences”.
