Definition

There are very many safeguards provided for the minorities in the Indian Constitution. One such safeguards was the setting up of the National Commission for Minorities. It is often held that protection of minorities is the hallmark of a civilized nation. And the level of the practice of common good and social justice in a polity could be measured to the extent of the level of the protection given to the minorities in that polity.

Introduction

The setting up of Minorities Commission was envisaged in the Ministry of Home Affairs Resolution dated January 12, 1978, which specifically mentioned that “despite the safeguards provided in the Constitution and the laws in force, there persists among the Minorities a feeling of inequality and discrimination.
