Nietzsches Gimmelwalder Melancholie- Gedichte aus dem Sommer 1871

From the book Nietzsche als Dichter

  • Armin Thomas Müller

Abstract

Nietzsche’s Gimmelwald poems on melancholy from the summer of 1871. The affinity of Nietzsche’s poems on melancholy written in July 1871 in Gimmelwald (Switzerland) has not been shown in detail yet. In a close reading of the two poems, this essay investigates both the functioning of the individual texts and their interplay. In addition, the poems are read in their literary and philosophical contexts: from the long tradition of melancholy into which Nietzsche inscribes himself to Die Geburt der Tragödie, which he was working on at exactly the same time.
