현대 철학의 주요한 과제 중 하나는 정보의 조작의 위협에 대처하는 것이라고 해도 과언이 아닐 줄 안다. 산업화나 정보화의 흐름을 추수(追隨)하고 뒷받침해주는 시종 역할이 아니라, 그 흐름이 간과하는 위험을 비판적으로 조망하고 주류의 사고방식이 형성해 놓은 세계의 경계 밖을 탐색하는 첨병과 같은 역할이 요구된다. 이 글에서는 시간성의 문제와 관련하여 그와 같은 역할의 한 면모를 주로 레비나스(Emmanuel Lévinas)의 철학에 기대어 모색해 보려 한다. 조작 가능한 기억의 시간성이 저장 장치에 담긴 공간화한 시간성이고 그런 의미에서 폐쇄성을 갖는 것이라면, 그것에 대비되는 시간성은 기억 불가능하게 열려 있는 통시적(通時的)이고 전근원적(前根源的)인 시간성이다. 기억이 예측과 쌍을 이루어 미래를 한정적으로 기획하는 대칭적 구도를 이룬다면, 전근원적 통시는 그러한 예측 너머로 뻗친 미래와 이어져 있다. 그러나 이 한정되지 않은 미래를 대하는 자세는 결코 방관적인 것일 수 없다. 이 글의 말미에서 레비나스를 쫓아 조망해 볼 것처럼, 우리의 미래는 책임과 함께 열린다.

It is no exaggeration to say that one of the main tasks of contemporary philosophy is to deal with the threat of manipulation of information. It is not a servant role to follow and support the flow of industrialization or informatization, but a role like a spearhead to critically look at the risks overlooked by the flow and search outside the boundaries of the world formed by the mainstream mindset. In this article, one aspect of such a role in relation to the problem of time is mainly explored based on the philosophy of Emmanuel Lévinas. If the temporality of manipulable memory is synchrony, the spatialized temporality contained in the storage device and has closedness in that sense, the temporality in contrast to it is diachronic and pre-original temporality, which is open to non-memory. If memory is paired with prediction to form a symmetrical composition of limitedly planning the future, pre-original diachrony is connected with the future that extends beyond such prediction. However, the attitude toward this unrestricted future cannot be onlooking and indifferent. As we will see it following Levinas at the end of this article, our future opens with responsibility.
