운명적 사랑에 관한 세간의 통념은 이중적이다. 한편으로는 이 낭만적 서사의 무수한 변종들이 매스 미디어를 통해 끊임없이 재생산되고 별다른 저항 없이 일상적으로 소비되지만, 다른 한편으로는 그러한 감정이 현실을 알지 못하는 미숙한 사춘기 시절의 감상적 환상이거나, 자본주의 사회에서 널리 소비되는 일종의 문화상품에 불과할 뿐이라는 자조적 냉소가 퍼져 있다. 이 글은 피상적 수준에 머물러 있는, 운명적 사랑에 관한 이 같은 대중적 이해에 도전하면서, 운명 개념에 대한 형이상학적 해석을 바탕으로 하나의 철학적 대안을 제시한다. 이러한 논의를 통해, 이 글은 운명적 사랑이 자유롭고 존엄한 주체로서 인간 존재의 해방과 완성을 매개하는 가장 근원적인 연대의 형식이라고 주장한다.

Common notions of destined love are equivocal. On the one hand, innumerable variations of this romantic narrative are incessantly reproduced by mass media and consumed everyday without any resistance; Yet, on the other hand, such self-mocking cynicism is widespread that those are nothing but either sentimental fantasies of immature adolescence ignorant of reality, or a kind of cultural product consumed generally in capitalist societies. Challenging those popular understandings about destined love which remain superficial, this paper tries to propose a philosophical alternative on the basis of metaphysical interpretation of the concept of destiny. From this, this paper argues that destined love is the most fundamental mode of solidarity to mediates the liberation and completion of human being as free and dignified subject.
