Nationalizations: A Left-Wing Economic Policy?

Abstract

The debate is closed: the nationalizable firms are now state property. The National Assembly and the Senate were the scenes of stormy contention and impassioned debate. Ministers of the previous government did not hesitate to predict the bankruptcy of society brought on by Marxism in power. They pleaded with the public and warned that Marxism had launched a frontal attack on liberalism. It was time to close ranks: the hour was grave, chaos was imminent. We were venturing into the unknown, etc. The debate is closed. In truth, it really involved only the political class. It was a state affair, without popular mobilization, public or democratic debate, or manifest interest at the grass roots.
