이 글은 이규성의 ‘철학함(철학사 연구 및 서술)’에 대한 총체적 이해를 목표로 한다. 구체적으로 이를 위해 이 글은 2012년 『한국현대철학사론』의 발간으로 최종 집약되는 한국현대철학사론의 핵심적인 연구들(1987-2012)을 순서대로 분석하면서 이규성의 방법론적 고유성과 특징들을 사상사적으로 파악하고 있다. 이는 이규성 ‘철학함’의 핵심내용, 다시 말해 한국현대철학사의 연구 및 서술과 관련된 방법론적 입안 과정을 이해하는 과정이라고 할 수 있다. 이러한 분석을 수행하면서 결론적으로 이 글은 이규성 철학함에는 근본원리로서 ‘의지(意志)’, 내용과 지향으로서 ‘내외합일(內外合一)’이 놓여 있다고 평가하는 한편, 철학사 방법론의 과도한 기계적 적용이라는 한계 역시 공존하고 있다고 주장한다. 최종적으로 이 글은 이규성의 한국현대철학사론과 직간접적으로 소통했던 다른 연구자들의 의견을 적극적으로 대비시켜 이규성의 철학사 방법론의 의의와 한계를 명확하게 정리하고, 한국현대철학사론의 확장 가능성을 제시하고 있다.

The purpose of this study is a comprehensive understanding of Lee Kyu-sung's “Doing Philosophy (Research and Description on the History of Philosophy).” To this end, this research performs a chronological analysis of the key studies on the history of modern Korean philosophy (1987-2012), which have been compiled with the publication of the History of Modern Korean Philosophy in 2012, in order to understand the uniqueness and characteristics of Lee’s methodology from the perspective of ideological history. This can be seen as the process of understanding the core content of Lee’s “Doing Philosophy,” that is, the methodological planning process related to the research and description of the history of modern Korean philosophy. As a result of the analysis, this study concludes that the fundamental principle of “Doing Philosophy” contains “will” while “unity of the inner and the outer” is laid out as the content and orientation. In addition, this study argues that there is also a limitation in which the methodology of philosophical history is being applied excessively and systematically. Finally, this study clearly presents the significance and limitations of Lee’s methodology of philosophical history by comparing with the opinions of other researchers who have directly or indirectly communicated with the History of Modern Korean Philosophy, and suggests the possibility of expansion of the history of modern Korean philosophy.
