Abstract

In the years immediately following the “Great War”, Lukacs wrote the series of essays that were later collected in History and Class-Consciousness, a book that can probably be classified as the most important and influential marxist theoretical effort of the last years. Like all truly great works that not only capture the essence of the age and set the stage for the next generation of thinkers, but also seek to make history, this one too met the wrath of the fossilized or fossilizing ideas of a fading period which, while gone in fact, remained well-established in thought.
