Introduction to “La Nouvelle Philosophie”

Abstract

In a recent interview, Michel Foucault states that philosophy these days has to become journalistic. The “nouvelle philosophic” movement is less than two years old and, while it is scant in its theoretical output and limited in its views, it has week after week filled the screens of French television and the pages of Le Monde, Le Nouvel Observateur, and other French periodicals. Even on this side of the Atlantic, it has been seized by the mass media and has generated an unusual amount of articles and editorials (for example, in The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, The St. Louis Post-Dispatch, etc.).
