The subject of the article is the universal symbolism of mountaineering, whose significance extends beyond the European tradition. It depicts the process of “inner ascendance”, involving both cognitive efforts and character education, inextricably linked with it. The article is supplemented with statements of prominent Himalayan climbers pertaining to the extreme circumstances experienced by them in the mountains.
