Abstract
The article indicates different aspects of forest in medieval German Literature, underlining the semantics of darkness and chaotic wilderness which make the forest in these texts a place of lost sense and indescribable absence of form. As a place of contingency, of a multiplicy of possibilities, forest becomes the materia out of which narratives are generated.
