Abstract
: Michel Foucault as a Reader of Ernst Cassirer. This paper sheds light on the relation between Cassirer and his reader Foucault, showing the continuity between the philosophy of culture and the archeology of knowledge. This continuity concerns, firstly, Foucault’s ethics, which is in line with the overall task of Cassirer’s project. It is argued, secondly, that Foucault’s logic of the humanities can be enriched in epistemological terms through Cassirer’s work. Thirdly, the study of Cassirer helps interpreting Foucault’s method as much as his political commitment. Though for the most part, this paper argues for the mutual benefit of reading Foucault and Cassirer in light of each other, stylistic differences will nevertheless be considered, and even more so the decisive shifts in moving from the logic of cultural sciences to the archeologyof the humanities.
