Zusammenfassung

Das Topos von der „Krise der Demokratie“ ist in den zurückliegenden Jahren ubiquitär geworden. Mit der Ausbreitung dieses Postulats ist die Möglichkeit verbunden, zu übersehen, dass Diagnosen von der Krise der Demokratie vor dem Hintergrund eines bestimmten Modells von Demokratie erfolgen, nämlich das liberal-repräsentativen Demokratie. Mit diesem Buch wollen wir die Hypothese formulieren, dass sich gleichsam im Schatten dieses Modells womöglich andere demokratische Praktiken und Modellannahmen entwickeln, die als Baustellen der Fabrikation neuer Demokratieformen begriffen werden können. Wir gehen deshalb der Frage nach, wie demokratische Veränderungen untersucht, verstanden und analysiert werden können, die über das liberale Modell hinausweisen. Zentral ist es dafür, den Blick für die Vielfalt an Praktiken und Techniken zu öffnen, in denen der ‚will of the people‘ artikuliert wird. Die Frage ist, wie wir Demokratieforschung betreiben können, die den theoretischen Rahmen nicht vorab setzt, sondern dafür offen ist zu erkunden, welche anderen Theorien (und Ontologien) des Demos und der Artikulation seiner Gestaltungsmacht sich im Zusammenhang mit emergenten Praktiken herausbilden. Mit diesem Buch wollen wir deshalb einen practice turn in der Demokratieforschung anregen, der einen Zugang zur vielfältigen und dynamischen Wirklichkeit der Demokratie(n) ermöglichen kann. Dafür skizzieren wir eine generische Analytik und geben einen Überblick über die Beiträge des Bandes.

    Die Unterscheidung von issues und Infrastrukturen der politischen Repräsentation bzw. der politischen Kollektivität bleibt dabei idealtypisch entlang einer Differenzierung von Materialität und Sinn, da jede artikulierte Problemlage (oder: jedes issue) zugleich als Infrastruktur der politischen Versammlung wirken kann, und da jede gesellschaftliche Infrastruktur zugleich als issue politische Auseinandersetzungen und Repräsentationseffekte nach sich ziehen kann.
