Geopolitical dimension of European and Euro-Atlantic policy of NATO

Research of the geopolitical dimension of European and Euro­Atlantic NATO policy is stipulated for the necessity to analyze the basic processes that take place in these spaces. They are associated primarily with the security sector, which is today one of the most important. The article analyzes European policy of NATO, which focuses mostly on security issues, as well as to enhance dialogue with member states and with the candidate states. European policy of NATO today is aimed at supporting and developing an active dialogue in the context of the expansion of multilateral cooperation, as well as new approaches to strengthen the security climate in Europe. The specificity of the Euro­Atlantic space, which appears as a key in the development of processes in the field of security has been determined. The attention is focused on the role and place of Russia in the processes that take place in this space. Increasing the level of confrontation with NATO, developing and building new weapons, changing geostrategic orientation and several other factors contribute to the development of NATO’s «new political and military thinking» in relation to Russia. All this taken together directly affect Euro­Atlantic policy, especially regarding the emergence of a new geopolitical threats in relation to which there is a strong need to develop new approaches, tools, instruments and resources.
