Notes
Bedi actually claims his analysis is limited to “those websites that seek to help users find romantic partners by charging some kind of fee” (190). Now it is not clear if by ‘some kind’ Bedi means to include sites like OKCupid, Tindr, Grindr, etc, which only charge optional fees to users for extra services beyond the normal free suite, while their main revenue is generated by ad sales, or if he means to speak only of sites that require fee-based accounts in order to access the service at all. I treat him as saying the former, because the vast majority of dating sites and especially traffic to them is on the former revenue model. The chapter is of limited interest if he indeed intends the latter.
