Abstract

The aim of this book is to provide a popular introduction to the latest developments in clinical genetics and the aspirations for the future among those working in the field. One author explores the historical background to the latest scientific discoveries and techniques. Other authors explain where we stand now by providing simple accounts of the present state of knowledge and current medical practice. Among the subjects treated arc: pre-implantation and prenatal testing; carrier testing with a view to reproductive choice; somatic gene therapy, germ-line gene therapy and non-therapeutic genetic interventions.
