Abstract

Against the backdrop of the contended lack of continuity among the Hamidian massacres of 1984–1896, the massacres of the first years of the 1900s and the slaughters and deportation of 1915 and afterwards, the essay focuses on the factors that led the Ottoman leadership to take the decision to engage in the annihilation of the Armenian people in Anatolia in early 1915. The analysis shows the existence of a precise intention in this connection, which represents a historical introduction to the legal analysis carried out in the Volume.
