Abstract

The essay is divided into two parts. Part one sketches a history of studies on Greek law over the past century: special emphasis is laid on the scholarly work of H.J. Wolff and on the significance of the Symposia. Part two singles out some of the fundamental themes and trends of current scholarly work on Greek law, with particular reference to the problem of the sources and to such areas as private and penal law and judicial procedures
