Abstract

This article discusses three linked concepts: identity, nation, and frontier. This implies the recognition of the identity, nation and frontier as specific unity of analysis and object of study for social sciences. Thus, we review different theoretical traditions in order to substantiate a coherent perspective on three of them. We analyze, first, the concept of nation and its bidirectional influence on identity term, and second, the assumptions about the contemporary conditions of National-States. It seems to us that current social, cultural and political circumstances suggest taking into account the identity process as an object of analysis in social science.
